Ítem Acceso abierto Effect of physiotherapeutic intervention on muscle strength in patients in the intensive care unit. Adolfo Guevara Velasco National Hospital, 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-04-18) Sequeiros Medina, Gleny; Cautín Martinez, Noemi EstherIn recent years, advances in intensive medicine have significantly reduced the number of deaths in ICU patients. However, this does not mean a quick solution to the illness in critically ill patients, as they often require prolonged ICU stays, considerably increasing the risk of developing complications related to mechanical ventilation and prolonged immobility. This research project, with a quantitative approach and a longitudinal pre-experimental design, will use validated tools such as the manual muscle strength measurement via the Medical Research Council (MRC), referenced as a method for diagnosing acquired muscle weakness in the ICU, and respiratory muscle strength measurement via manovacuometry. The study aims to demonstrate the effect of physiotherapeutic intervention through a respiratory muscle training protocol and early mobilization on muscle strength, highlighting the need for physiotherapists in ICU settings across hospitals to prevent and reverse ICU-acquired weakness.
