Ítem Acceso abierto Risk factors in the progression and mortality of heart failure in the elderly(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017) Gaspar Ramos, Eliana; Valverde Maylle, Maria; Gómez Gonzales, Walter EdgarObjective: To determine the risk factors in the progression and mortality of heart failure in the elderly. Materials and Methods: Observational and retrospective systematic review, with a restriction to full-text articles. The selected articles underwent critical reading using the Jover evaluation to identify their level of evidence. Results: In the final selection, 11 articles were chosen, 73% (8) of which were from Spain, with 9% (1) from Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina. Of these, 50% were analytical cross-sectional studies, and 80% of the articles stated that the risk factors for the progression and mortality of heart failure in the elderly included hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, and obesity, while 20% cited lifestyle, dyslipidemia, pharmacological factors, age, sex, and anxiety as contributing factors. Conclusions: The 11 articles reviewed showed that 80% (9/11) identified the risk factors for progression and mortality in heart failure among the elderly as hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and obesity, while 20% (2/11) identified lifestyle, dyslipidemia, pharmacological factors, age, sex, and anxiety.
