Comparison of duck egg and chicken egg in the preparation of ogawa medium to decrease the average growth time of mycobacterium tuberculosis
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-09-17) Guevara Perez, Lloy Italo; Rosas Paredes, Antino Rogelio; Benites Azabache, Juan Carlos
Tuberculosis, in any of its manifestations, is currently one of the most important public health issues, and the search for a rapid diagnostic method has been and continues to be one of the primary objectives in many parts of the world, especially in countries like ours, which have high incidence rates, and where the most affected population lacks the financial means to access existing rapid diagnostic methods. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the Ogawa culture medium with duck egg for the diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, comparing the growth time and growth characteristics of this medium at 15, 30, 45, and 60 days. Methodology: A descriptive, comparative study was conducted using 50 samples from asymptomatic respiratory patients and TB patients (++, +++). Patients with ongoing treatment, paucibacillary patients, treatment dropouts, and relapses were excluded, and the Ogawa culture method was used. Bacterial growth was assessed in the culture media at 15, 30, 45, and 60 days, as well as the average growth time using duck egg and chicken egg. Results: The average growth time of M. tuberculosis in the Ogawa medium with duck egg was 17.3 days, while with chicken egg it was 23.6 days, with a significant difference between both averages (p=0.000). The colony growth on duck egg was significantly higher than on chicken egg at 15 days (p=0.002), 30 days (p=0.001), and 45 days (p=0.025). No significant difference was found in colony growth at 60 days (p=0.215). Conclusion: The use of the Ogawa medium with duck egg is justified as an alternative for the presumptive diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Effectiveness of reprocessing with laboratory validation and ATP to optimize high-level disinfection of endoscopes
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-08-25) Apaza Idme, Olga Beatriz; Calsina Diaz, Yrma Renida; Matta Solis, Hernán Hugo
Objective: To systematically analyze the evidence on the effectiveness of reprocessing with laboratory validation and ATP, to optimize high-level disinfection in endoscopes. Material and Methods: Systematic review of experimental, cohort studies, randomized controlled and uncontrolled trials, subjected to critical selection, found in the following databases: PubMed, Cochrane, Scielo, Wiley Online Library, Elsevier, Redalyc. Results: In the final selection, 10 articles were chosen, we found that 60% (06) correspond to the USA, with 20% (2) correspond to Brazil and 10% to Mexico and Chile. Likewise, among the studies, it was obtained that 50% indicate that the Bioluminescence test is quick and economical for the identification of microorganisms, also 10% indicate that ATP cannot replace cultures performed with endoscopes in the laboratory, for 100 % of studies Cleaning is essential for adequate endoscope reprocessing and thus avoiding cross infections. Conclusions: According to the articles reviewed, there is no effectiveness of reprocessing with laboratory validation and ATP, to optimize high-level disinfection in endoscopes, since in most cases the endoscopes are not adequately cleaned; Automated washing is more effective than manual washing of endoscopes. Mean platelet volume and procalcitonin as prognostic indicators of severity of neonatal sepsis, Hospital Apoyo II, Sullana - Piura 2022
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-05-28) Benavides Apolo, Gabriela Mercedes; Huamán Cárdenas, Victor Raul
Introduction: Sepsis is a clinical syndrome defined by a dysregulated systemic response to infection, leading to multisystemic inflammatory damage. In Peru, neonatal sepsis is considered the second leading cause of death, with figures close to 22%, and is the leading cause of death in children under 1 year and under 5 years old. Objective: To evaluate the mean platelet volume and procalcitonin as prognostic indicators of the severity of neonatal sepsis in patients treated at Hospital II in Sullana-Piura, 2022. Material and Methods: This will be a deductive hypothetical research with probabilistic analysis, as the results of the study sample will later be generalizable to the study population. The research is observational, and the population consists of 3,704 neonates with a sample of 108. A data collection sheet will be used, and information will be obtained through indicators that help identify the prognosis of neonatal sepsis and understand the relationship between platelet volume and the mechanisms of inflammation in systemic infectious processes. Conclusion: Indicators such as procalcitonin and mean platelet volume can be fundamental in the prognosis of the severity of neonatal sepsis. Early recognition of sepsis and the administration of appropriate treatment with antibiotics, fluids, and vasopressors are essential to reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality.

Personal-Work factors of asymptomatic students and their relationship with the presence of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus at the E.A.P. Medical Technology, Private University Norbert Wiener, Lima – 2015
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 1905-07-07) Castillo Paiva, Elmer; Benites Azabache, Juan Carlos
Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacterium capable of becoming a difficult-to-manage pathogen and is one of the leading causes of infections in both community and hospital settings. Over time, various bacteria have developed mechanisms of resistance to multiple antimicrobials, complicating therapeutic management. Antimicrobial resistance is attributed, among other causes, to the indiscriminate use of antibiotics, poor management by health professionals, uncontrolled sales of drugs, and self-medication, which increases the likelihood that microorganisms will mutate and/or acquire resistance genes, extending the duration of illness and increasing the risk of death. The study aimed to determine the personal and labor-related factors of asymptomatic students and their association with the presence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The study involved 50 students from the Norbert Wiener University, and of the Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from 6 students, none were identified as MRSA.

Reevaluation of the cytological diagnosis of bacterian vaginosis and cytolytic vaginosis, public health laboratory, Sullana, 2022
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-10-01) Zapata Cordova, Armando; García Vásquez, Carlos Hugo
Vaginal discomfort in women of reproductive age and sexually active women is commonly caused by bacterial vaginosis (BV), which has a high global prevalence and results from an imbalance in the vaginal ecosystem. Cytolytic vaginosis (CV), also known as Döderlein's cytolysis, is a condition that is not well-known among health professionals. It is characterized by the presence of abundant Lactobacillus, which results from the lysis of the vaginal epithelium. Döderlein's bacilli are part of the vaginal microbiotic barrier, inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria. CV causes symptoms similar to BV, such as vaginal discharge, pain, burning, and itching, leading health professionals to confuse the diagnosis and treat it with common antibiotics, which do not improve the patient's condition. In Peru, studies estimating the incidence of bacterial or cytolytic vaginosis have not yet been developed. At the Sullana Public Health Laboratory, cytological evaluations have been conducted as part of the screening program since 2018, and studies on its performance, quality of reading, and the proportion of non-neoplastic and neoplastic findings are being developed. Therefore, it is necessary to quantify the number of findings and the proportion of potentially inaccurate results. The method proposed in this study is the hypothetical-deductive method, as it aims to either reject or accept statements presented in the form of hypotheses, with conclusions compared to the facts. The study design is non-experimental, observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional.

Utility of Amsel's Criteria for the Diagnosis of Bacterial Vaginosis Caused by Gardnerella Vaginalis in Asymptomatic Pregnant Women Attended at the "San Conrado" Parochial Medical Center between December 27, 2014, and February 10, 2015
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 1905-07-07) Mori Porras, Gloria Mercedes; Benites Azabache, Juan Carlos
The utility of Amsel's criteria for diagnosing bacterial vaginosis caused by Gardnerella vaginalis in asymptomatic pregnant women was evaluated. Vaginal secretion samples were taken from 90 women who were treated at the San Conrado Parochial Medical Center between December 27, 2014, and February 10, 2015. Amsel's criteria were applied as a clinical diagnostic method, considering the presence of homogeneous vaginal discharge, a pH > 4.5, a positive amine test, and the presence of clue cells. Additionally, vaginal secretion cultures were performed on all patients. The results showed that 8.9% of asymptomatic pregnant women had a positive culture for Gardnerella vaginalis, with isolation associated with 61.1% of patients with a pH > 4.5, 11.1% with a positive amine test, and 11.1% with clue cells.
