Ítem Acceso abierto Factors limiting the choice of the intrauterine device in womernin reproductive age atended in the Manuel Barreto Childhood Center in the july – september 2019 period(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-12-18) Cirineo Collana, Janeth Rossi; Salcedo Suárez, Katty LeticiaObjective: To determine the factors limiting the choice of intrauterine devices (IUDs) among women of reproductive age attended at the Manuel Barreto Maternal and Child Center from July to September 2019. Materials and Methods: This was an analytical, prospective, cross-sectional, correlational study with a sample of 264 women of reproductive age, both Peruvian and foreign, attended at the Manuel Barreto Maternal and Child Center. Results: Personal factors limiting the choice of IUDs included cohabitation status (p=0.031) and secondary education level (p=0.005). Cultural factors included the belief that copper IUDs are only suitable for women with children (p=0.021) and religion (p=0.009). Gynecological-obstetric factors limiting IUD choice among Peruvian and foreign women were the number of children (p=0.006), age at first sexual intercourse (p=0.002), and bleeding during sexual intercourse (p=0.042), all of which were statistically significant. Conclusion: Personal, cultural, and gynecological-obstetric factors limit the choice of intrauterine devices among women of reproductive age attended at the Manuel Barreto Maternal and Child Center.
