Materials and Methods: An observational, cross-sectional, retrospective, and descriptive study was conducted at the Confifarma pharmacy, including a total of 380 prescriptions. A registration sheet was used containing the items of the Beers criteria: medications that should not be prescribed to older adults, potentially inappropriate medications due to their ability to exacerbate diseases or syndromes, and medications that should be used with caution in older adults. Results: Key demographic characteristics of older adult users were presented, with the age group ranging from 60 to 65 years representing 50.5%, and 51.3% being male. Among the top ten psychotropic drugs with inappropriate prescriptions according to the Beers criteria, Alprazolam ranked first with 109 cases (28.7%), followed by Clonazepam at 17.6%. Other drugs in the same class, such as Diazepam and Midazolam, were also listed. The percentage of patients who received an inappropriate prescription of these medications was 56.31%. Conclusion: The top ten psychotropic drugs with inappropriate prescriptions according to the Beers criteria in older adults were Alprazolam, Clonazepam, Diazepam, Midazolam, Amitriptyline, Fluoxetine, Levomepromazine, Paroxetine, Clozapine, and Ketazolam, respectively. More than half of the older adults evaluated received an inappropriate prescription of psychotropic drugs.
