(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017-07-17) Robles Rivera, Gissel Kathleen; Cupé Araujo, Ana Cecilia
Traditionally, the oral health status of a population is assessed through clinical indicators; however, it is important to evaluate the impact of this condition on the overall well-being of children. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of oral problems (dental caries and malocclusions) on oral health-related quality of life in children aged 8 to 10 years attending I.E. 32385 Virgen De Fátima in the Llata District, Huánuco, in 2016. The study was observational, prospective, cross-sectional, and analytical. The sample was convenience-based, consisting of 110 schoolchildren. The results showed that the majority of the children were 9 years old (49.1%). More than half of the children perceived that their oral health was “Very good or Good,” reflecting a positive perception. It was concluded that, according to the CPO, the average score was (10.34 ± 3.13), indicating a very high experience of dental caries, while the frequency of malocclusion types was 81.5% for Type I, 8.3% for Type II, and 10.2% for Type III. Additionally, more than half (55.5%) had a positive perception of their oral health, while about a third (74.5%) perceived that their oral health affected their quality of life. Final analyses showed that having 0 to 5 teeth with experience of dental caries significantly impacts the oral symptomatology dimension within the CPQ8-10. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that 8-year-old children have a significant risk of impact on oral symptomatology and social well-being, as well as on the overall component of oral health-related quality of life.

Impact of malocclusions on self-esteem and the need for orthodontic treatment in adolescent patients treated at the ODAM dental clinic, Lima 2021.
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-04-05) Izaguirre Arregui, Carolina de las Mercedes; Céspedes Porras, Jacqueline
The aim of this research was to determine the impact of malocclusions on self-esteem and the need for orthodontic treatment in adolescent patients attended at the ODAM dental clinic, Lima, 2021. A quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study design was used. The sample consisted of 93 patients aged 11 to 14 years, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) was used to measure the severity of malocclusions and the clinical need for orthodontic treatment, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) was used to measure self-esteem, and the Aesthetic Component (AC) of the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) was used to measure the need for orthodontic treatment according to the patient's perception. The results showed that most patients had some degree of malocclusion, with severe malocclusion being the most prevalent (67.7%). In terms of the distribution of malocclusion severity by age, very severe malocclusions were most commonly found at ages 13 and 14, and in terms of gender, malocclusions were more prevalent in females. Regarding self-esteem, two-thirds of the sample had high (46.2%) or medium (24.7%) self-esteem, while only 29.0% had low self-esteem. No statistically significant relationship was found between the severity of malocclusions and self-esteem level (p=0.809, p>0.05), nor between the severity of malocclusions and the need for orthodontic treatment as perceived by the adolescent patients (p=0.083, p>0.05).

Oral habits and malocclusions in children aged 7 to 12 years attended at the Central Military Hospital of Lima, period 2017 to 2018
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-11-06) Libman Mendoza, Milagros Josselyn; Iturria Reátegui, Ingrid Rosa Isabel
The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between oral habits and malocclusions in children aged 7 to 12 years treated at the Central Military Hospital in Lima during the period 2017 to 2018. For its development, a correlational and retrospective research design was used, as the goal was to recognize oral habits in children aged 7 to 12 years and relate them to different stages of malocclusions. This research was cross-sectional because it collects data at a single point in time. The study used a non-probabilistic convenience sampling method, with 90 children treated at the Central Military Hospital in Lima. The technique used for data collection was the collection form, which allows for systematic and organized gathering of information about the variables involved in the study.

Parafunctional habits and their influence on malocclusions in students of an educational institution in Lima, 2023
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-12-13) García Bazalar, Gisela Estefanía; Evaristo Quipas, Pamela
The objective of this thesis was to determine the influence of parafunctional habits on malocclusions in schoolchildren from an educational institution in Lima, 2023. A quantitative, applied, observational, and cross-sectional design was used. The study evaluated 109 schoolchildren aged 6 to 12 years, using a data collection sheet structured in three defined sections: the first part gathered sociodemographic characteristics, the second consisted of 21 questions to investigate the presence of parafunctional habits, which were then clinically verified, and the third part checked for the presence of malocclusions. It was observed that 14 schoolchildren (12.8%) with a lip sucking habit presented a sagittal plane malocclusion, 20% presented lip sucking and posterior crossbite, 13.4% presented lip sucking and class I malocclusion, and 23.5% presented digital sucking and onychophagia with anterior deep bite. The p-value was less than 0.05, accepting H1, indicating that there is an influence, and the Spearman Rho value was 0.241, showing a weak positive correlation. Conclusion: There is a significant influence of parafunctional habits on malocclusions in schoolchildren from an educational institution in Lima, 2023
