Maternal and neonatal factors associated with neonatal sepsis at the Tingo Maria Contingency Hospital from 2020 to 2021
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-08-10) Jara Lino, Astrid Amely; Gonzales Carrillo, Javier José
Objective: To determine the maternal and neonatal factors associated with neonatal sepsis in newborns at the Contingency Hospital of Tingo María from 2020-2021. Methodology: The study is observational, analytical, retrospective, cross-sectional, case-control with a 1:2 ratio, and a sample of 243 neonates. The association was measured using Chi-square and Odds Ratio with a 95% CI. Results: Early neonatal sepsis was present in 85% of cases. The only neonatal risk factor associated with neonatal sepsis was prematurity, with OR=2.23 and p=0.013. Maternal risk factors included insufficient prenatal care (≤5 visits) with OR=5.34 and p=0.01, premature rupture of membranes with OR=3.9 and p=0.04, prolonged premature rupture of membranes with OR=8.14 and p=0.002, and urinary tract infection in the third trimester of pregnancy with OR=5.89 and p=0.012. Maternal age under 20 years was identified as a protective factor with OR=0.29 and p=0.002. Conclusions: Risk factors associated with neonatal sepsis include prematurity, insufficient prenatal care (≤5 visits), premature rupture of membranes, prolonged premature rupture of membranes, and urinary tract infection. Maternal age under 20 years was identified as a protective factor.

Maternal factors and nutritional status in children under 3 years of age in the context of a pandemic, in a Level III Health Center. Victory 2022
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-12-11) Sulca Campana, Eulogia Kelly; Arevalo Marcos, Rodolfo Amado
Objective: To determine the relationship between maternal factors and the nutritional status of children under 3 years old in the context of the pandemic, at a level III health center in La Victoria, 2022. Method: The study follows a quantitative approach with an observational, correlational design. Population and Sample: The population consists of 136 children, and a non-probabilistic convenience sampling method was used to select a sample of 100 children under 3 years old. Techniques and Instruments: The instruments on maternal factors and nutritional status were developed and validated by Licenciado Huarhua F. The first instrument is a questionnaire that measures maternal factors, consisting of 21 closed questions organized by dimensions (Biological, Sociocultural, Economic, and Environmental). The second instrument is an evaluation form that assesses nutritional status, consisting of 10 indicators divided into weight-for-age (W/A), weight-for-height (W/H), and height-for-age (H/A). Procedure and Data Analysis: The collected data will be coded and entered into an MS Excel database for subsequent statistical analysis using SPSS version 23. Results will be presented through tables and graphs, with the relationship between variables determined using Spearman's rho parametric correlation.

Maternal knowledge and practice on the prevention of acute respiratory infections in the pediatric area of a hospital in Huancayo, 2022
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-12-11) Mallma Campos, Pilar Gabriela; Basurto Santillán, Ivan Javier
Nursing professionals working in pediatrics assume a series of responsibilities and actions that allow for maintaining children's health. Mothers become their main allies to achieve comprehensive care for pediatric patients, especially in cases of acute respiratory infections. However, during consultations, it has been detected that knowledge and practice of preventive actions to avoid these infections are insufficient. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate this issue to take corrective actions that contribute to reducing the problem. Objective: To determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and practice regarding the prevention of acute respiratory infections in the pediatric area of a hospital in Huancayo, 2022. Materials and methods: This will be a quantitative, non-experimental cross-sectional study with a descriptive-correlational scope. Eighty mothers will participate. Surveys will be employed, and the selected instruments will be two questionnaires to measure each of the variables.
