Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: vitamin B12 deficiency in patients with diabetes mellitus treated with metformin(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-01-20) Maldonado Mendivil, Silvia; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea LisbetDiabetes Mellitus type II is a disease that has been affecting the majority of people worldwide and Peru is no stranger to it. There are numerous studies that indicate that supplementation with micronutrients should be carried out in order to improve and maintain the good health of people with DM2 who are receiving this treatment. The question sought to know if the drug Metformin predisposes to vitamin B12 deficiency? In this critical review, one of the methodologies called Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) was used. The information was searched in SCIENCE DIRECT, SCOPUS, PUBMED/MEDLINE, SCIELO, of which 20 articles were selected, which were evaluated with (CASPE) a tool used for critical reading, considering the selected article to have a level of evidence I and Grade of Recommendation I, according to the researcher's expertise. The critical comment allowed us to conclude that there are different studies that refer to the fact that the treatment of type II diabetes mellitus, with metformin, the most used first-line drug, predisposes to vitamin B12 deficiency, depending on the dose and time of treatment.Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of metformin associated with glibenclamide for the treatment of patients with type II diabetes(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-11-04) Torres Montes, Ynes Yolanda; Valentin Sulca, Malena Connie; Rivera Lozada de Bonilla, OrianaThe reviewed investigations highlighted that there is equivalent efficacy and safety in terms of reducing glycosylated hemoglobin between metformin and glibenclamide. Non-inferiority in severe adverse events and cardiovascular events was demonstrated, respectively, in patients receiving glimepiride. The effectiveness varies, and the best cost-effectiveness ratio is found in the metformin regimen.
