Publicación Acceso abierto Cincunferencia del brazo y su relacion con la hemoglobina y el hematocrito en personas de la tercera edad de Cercado de Lima, 20107(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-07-10) García García, Leonidas; Parreño Tipián, Juan ManuelThe objective of the present research was to determine the relationship between Arm Circumference (AC) and Hemoglobin (Hb) and Hematocrit (Hct) in elderly individuals receiving some form of assisted care, such as nutrition and basic medical attention, in nursing homes in the district of Lima Cercado during 2017. Methodologically, the study is descriptive, observational, prospective, and correlational. The study included a total of 136 elderly participants, both men and women, aged 60 years or older. The results showed that 72% of the participants had low Hct levels, and 70% had low Hb levels, with women being the most affected at 58%. Regarding AC, 40% of participants had low AC, 46% had normal AC, and 14% had high AC. In terms of gender and AC levels, low AC was directly associated with low Hct in 89% of men and 62% of women. Low AC was also associated with low Hb in 65% of women and 89% of men. Its objective is to relate anthropometric values with biochemical parameters of 134 individuals between 60 and 89 years old, members of the “Casa Hogar San Martín de Porres.” The values obtained for BMI were: 12% overweight and 4% obese, with higher prevalence in males. Regarding AC values, 30% presented high risk, with higher prevalence in females. Finally, for MUAC values, 19% presented risk, with higher prevalence in females. In cholesterol values, 27% presented moderate risk and 15% high risk, with higher prevalence in females. It was also found that triglyceride levels showed 10% and 9% corresponding to moderate and high risk, respectively, with males showing higher prevalence of elevated triglycerides. It is concluded that a statistically significant relationship was found between the anthropometric values BMI and AC with the biochemical parameters cholesterol and triglycerides; however, no such relationship was found between MUAC and the biochemical parameters.Publicación Acceso abierto Relación del colesterol y triglicéridos con el indice de masa corporal (IMC), circunferencia de la cintura (CC) y circunferencia del brazo (CB) en manipuladores de alimentos de comedores populares de Villa María del Triunfo en el año 2013(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Bernaola Anampa, Esther Gudelia; Carrazco Acho, Lourdes Mónica; Parreño Tipián, Juan ManuelThis study examines the relationship between biochemical parameters—cholesterol and triglycerides—and anthropometric parameters—Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference (WC), and Arm Circumference (AC)—in food handlers of community kitchens in the district of Villa María del Triunfo during November and December 2013. A descriptive, correlational, prospective, cross-sectional, and non-experimental study was conducted. Cholesterol and triglyceride levels were determined in the laboratories of Universidad Wiener using enzymatic methods, while weight, height, waist circumference, and arm circumference were measured to obtain anthropometric data. For statistical analysis, the Chi-square test and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were used. Biochemical results showed that 25% of participants presented a moderate risk in cholesterol levels, with ages ranging from 35 to 50 years; regarding triglycerides, 3.7% were at moderate risk, with ages between 65 and 75 years. Concerning BMI, 39% were overweight, of whom 31.6% were aged 35–50 years, and 16.3% presented class I obesity, with 67.3% aged 51–64 years. Waist circumference results indicated that 54% had abdominal obesity, i.e., at-risk levels, of which 41.4% were aged 51–64 years; for arm circumference, 52.3% were at-risk, with 35% aged 35–50 years. It was concluded that there is a moderate, positive, and significant correlation between cholesterol and triglycerides; a high, positive, and significant correlation between BMI and WC, as well as between BMI and AC; a low, positive, and significant correlation between cholesterol and triglycerides with BMI, and between cholesterol and triglycerides with WC; and finally, a very low, positive, and significant correlation between cholesterol and triglycerides with AC.
