Efficacy of the supplies used in intestinal cleansing prior to colorectal procedures to avoid electrolyte alterations in pediatric patients
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-11-04) Ascanio Astete, Natalia Ibonet; Ochante Minaya, Melisa Madeleine; Millones Gómez, Segundo Germán
Objective: Systematize the evidence found in studies regarding the efficacy of the materials used in intestinal cleaning prior to colorectal procedures to avoid electrolyte disturbances in pediatric patients. Materials and Methods: This is a systematic review of 13 scientific articles found in the following databases: PubMed, Scielo, Epistemonikos, Cochrane, and EBSCO, selected using the GRADE evaluation system to identify the degree and quality of evidence. Of the systematically reviewed scientific articles, 100% are of high quality. Regarding the design type: 40% (4 out of 13) are meta-analyses, 30% (4 out of 13) are randomized controlled trials, 20% (3 out of 13) are clinical trials, and 10% (2 out of 13) are systematic reviews. Results: 8 out of 13 indicate that the materials used in intestinal cleaning prior to colorectal procedures are effective in pediatric patients as no electrolyte disturbances are evident. 5 out of 13 indicate that electrolyte disturbances occur after intestinal cleaning prior to colorectal procedures. Conclusions: The materials used in intestinal cleaning prior to colorectal procedures are effective in pediatric patients as no electrolyte disturbances are evident. Factors such as pathology, weight, and dosage of the pediatric patient should be considered for adequate intestinal cleaning.
