Ítem Acceso abierto Comparison of the modulus of elasticity and resistance of the thermosetting acrylic resin and the flexible superpolyamide resin. in vitro study - Lima 2019(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-12-22) Maylle Leon, James Enrique; Girano Castaños, Jorge AlbertoThe objective of this research was to compare the modulus of elasticity and resistance of thermocured acrylic resin and flexible superpolyamide resin in an in vitro study conducted in Lima, 2019. Methods: Two types of acrylic resins were used, prepared in wax to obtain rectangular shapes measuring 64 mm in length, 10 mm in width, and 2.5 mm in thickness. These were subsequently converted into thermocured acrylic resin and flexible superpolyamide resin. The sample size was determined using statistical calculations, resulting in 10 resin blocks of each type. These blocks were subjected to compression using a universal testing machine, applying a force increment of 0.001 N with a progression of 0.01 mm/min. Both the modulus of resistance and modulus of elasticity were analyzed through three-point bending tests. Results: The modulus of elasticity for thermocured acrylic resin was 2501.83 ± 139.42 MPa, and its modulus of resistance was 78.36 ± 11.69 MPa. Meanwhile, the modulus of elasticity for flexible superpolyamide resin was 1020.59 ± 92.95 MPa, and its modulus of resistance was 36.04 ± 2.71 MPa. The difference in modulus of elasticity between the two materials was 1481.24 MPa, and the difference in modulus of resistance was 42.32 MPa. Conclusion: The thermocured acrylic resin exhibited significantly higher modulus of elasticity (rigidity) and resistance compared to the flexible superpolyamide resin.
