Materials and methods: Quantitative, non-experimental, correlational and cross-sectional study. 278 mothers who attended the growth and development control service of the Piedra Liza Maternal and Child Health Center during the period October - December, 2018 were included. Results: 92.1% presented adequate breastfeeding techniques; Regarding the position dimension it was 83.5%; grip, 94.2% and suction, 95%. 41.4% of the children showed secure behavioral attachment to the mother and 41% of the mothers showed secure behavioral attachment to the child. The behavioral attachment of the child and mother was secure in 41.4% and 41%, respectively; regarding the look, 41.4% and 41.7%; in vocalization, 54% and 56.5%; in search touch, 72% and 82.7%; in avoidance touch, 68.4% and 75.2%; regarding support, 57.9% and 56.5%; in affection, 57.9% and 53.2%; and in proximity, 61.9% and 61.5%. Breastfeeding techniques were significantly related to the behavioral attachment of the child to the mother (p<0.001) and of the mother to the child (p<0.001). Conclusion: Children with adequate breastfeeding tend to develop secure behavioral attachment to their mother; and mothers with adequate breastfeeding tend to develop secure behavioral attachment to the child.
