Ítem Acceso abierto pH values of fluorinated mouthwashes marketed in Peru in 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-08-03) Zorrilla Reyes, Sheyla Sugey; Chanamé Marín, Ann RosemaryObjective: The objective of this study was to determine the average pH value of fluoridated mouthwashes sold in Peru in 2021. Methodology: This was an observational-comparative study. Seven commercial brands were evaluated, with a sample of 21 fluoridated mouthwashes, three per group: Colgate Plax Ice Glacial Zero Alcohol, Colgate Plax Soft Mint Zero Alcohol, Listerine Cuidado Total Zero, Listerine Anticaries, Oral B Complete, Dento Menta Zero Alcohol, and Vitis Orthodontic. A digital pH meter, previously calibrated, was used to measure the pH, and the data were processed using ANOVA and Tukey tests. Statistically significant differences were found in the average pH values (p=0.000, p<0.05), and these were considered acidic since the values ranged from 3.93 to 6.27. Of the evaluated brands, 6 (86%) had values below the critical pH of 5.5, which is considered potentially erosive for enamel. Listerine Anticaries was the most acidic with a pH of 3.93, and Dento Menta Zero Alcohol was the least acidic with a pH of 6.27, being the only brand above the critical value. Conclusion: It is suggested that the pH value be expressed on the commercial label to take it into account when choosing the most appropriate mouthwash based on the patient's needs, considering the benefit/side effect balance.
