Ítem Acceso abierto (Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-09-27) Laynes Villanueva, Yaqueline Melissa; Céspedes Porras, JacquelineThe objective of this research was to determine the effectiveness of music therapy in reducing dental anxiety in children aged 3 to 5 years attended at PRONOEI "Caritas Felices" Lima, 2018. Anxiety levels were measured using the Facial Image Scale (FIS) at three successive points (before the dental intervention, during the intervention without music therapy, and finally during the dental intervention with music therapy). Additionally, vital signs such as heart rate (HR) and respiratory rate (RR) were recorded. This study was analytical, with a quasi-experimental and self-controlled design. The most important findings showed that anxiety levels before the dental appointment ranged from moderate (20.0%) to severe (48.0%). During the dental appointment without music therapy, anxiety levels increased in 60% of the children, with only 40% showing normal anxiety levels. However, during the dental appointment with music therapy, anxiety levels decreased, as 86% of the children presented moderate anxiety levels, and the remaining 14% showed anxiety levels ranging from mild to moderate. Therefore, when the dental intervention was performed without music therapy, anxiety levels increased, although this increase was not statistically significant. In contrast, when music therapy was used, anxiety levels were reduced.Ítem Acceso abierto Effect of essential oil and music therapy in reducing anxiety, in patients undergoing dental fillings in a dental office, Callao - 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-08-17) Velazco Ramon, Edwin Pedro; Girano Castaños, Jorge AlbertoObjective: To evaluate the effect of essential oil and music therapy on the reduction of anxiety in patients undergoing dental filling treatment in a dental office, Callao – 2022. Materials and Methods: This was an observational, analytical, and longitudinal study. A total of 135 patients were evaluated, divided into three groups: essential oil, music therapy, and control, with 45 patients in each group. Heart rate and anxiety levels were measured before and after the treatment. Results: In the control group, no significant difference in anxiety levels was found. In the essential oil group, before treatment, 40% had high anxiety, 48.89% had moderate anxiety, and 11.11% had low anxiety. After treatment, high anxiety decreased to 4.44%, moderate anxiety to 15.56%, low anxiety to 46.67%, and 33.33% had no anxiety, showing a significant difference. In the music therapy group, before treatment, 44.44% had high anxiety, 44.4% had moderate anxiety, and 11.11% had low anxiety. After treatment, high anxiety decreased to 6.67%, moderate anxiety to 6.67%, low anxiety to 51.11%, and 35.56% had no anxiety, with a significant difference. The control group showed no significant difference in heart rate. In contrast, the essential oil group showed a heart rate of 88.22 bpm before treatment and 81.33 bpm after treatment, with a significant difference. The music therapy group had a heart rate of 88.24 bpm before treatment and 80.91 bpm after treatment, also with a significant difference. Conclusion: Essential oil and music therapy have an effect on the reduction of anxiety in patients undergoing dental filling treatment in a dental office.
