Effectiveness of β2 agonist administration by inhalation with spacer versus nebulization in controlling asthma attacks
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017-07-22) Acosta Guevara, Dany; Ramirez Chasnamote, Dulma; Gómez Gonzales, Walter Edgar
Objective: To systematize the available evidence on the effectiveness of administering b2 agonists via inhalation with a spacer versus nebulization in controlling asthma attacks. Results: The systematic review of 7 scientific articles on the effectiveness of administering b2 agonists via inhalation with a spacer versus nebulization in controlling asthma attacks was conducted in the following databases: PubMed, Scielo, Medline, and Cochrane. All of them correspond to study types and designs: Systematic Review, Randomized Clinical Trial, Prospective Experimental, and Cross-sectional. Conclusions: 100% of the studies included in the systematic review (n=7/7) show that administering b2 agonists via nebulizer did not produce significantly better results than metered-dose inhalers delivered through a spacer in adults or children, in trials where treatments were repeated and titrated based on participant response. Spacers may have some advantages over nebulizers for children with acute asthma.

Efficacy of nebulized furosemide in the outpatient treatment of adult patients with asthma.
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-08-26) Huayhuas Taipe, Fany; Perez Siguas, Rosa Eva
Objective: To systematically analyze evidence regarding the efficacy of furosemide nebulization in reducing bronchospasms in patients with acute mild and moderate bronchial asthma. Materials and Methods: Systematic review methodology, synthesizing results from multiple primary studies. The GRADE system was used to assess evidence quality and recommendation strength. Results: 90% (n=09/10) of the reviewed articles demonstrate that nebulization with furosemide added to saline solution is effective in reducing bronchospasms associated with mild and moderate acute bronchial asthma. 10% (n=01/10) of the studies highlight the need for further research with larger sample sizes to conclusively establish furosemide as an antiasthmatic medication. Studies included in this systematic review originated from Cuba, Honduras, the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain, Mexico, and Italy. Conclusions: Furosemide nebulization is effective for outpatient treatment of mild and moderate bronchial asthma in adult patients. Further research with broader sample sizes is recommended to strengthen the evidence base and clarify its antiasthmatic potential.
