Ítem Acceso abierto Protein reserve according to anthropometric and bioelectrical indicators in patients hospitalized at the Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo in December 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-07-21) Ayala Reyna, Mayra Alejandra; Mauricio Alza, Saby MarisolQuantifying muscle mass as a tool for monitoring metabolic and functional variations that cause muscle wasting, on the one hand, and the corresponding correction of protein intake that enables disease management, as well as the success of the therapy. Objective: To determine the protein reserve according to anthropometric and bioelectrical indicators in patients hospitalized at the National Hospital Dos de Mayo in December 2022. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted, including 137 patients over 18 years old hospitalized in the internal medicine and surgery areas, who were assessed with anthropometric indicators and the bioelectrical indicator using BIA for muscle mass analysis with bioimpedance equipment. Results: 54.7% of the sample were men, with 56.9% hospitalized in the internal medicine service and the remaining 43.1% in surgery. The prevalent clinical diagnosis was gastrointestinal pathologies. Only 35.8% (n=49) of the sample had normal weight according to BMI. The protein reserve, according to anthropometric indicators, showed muscle depletion in 35% (n=48) by CB and 40.1% (n=55) by CMB. In contrast, when using BIA, 32.8% (n=45) had decreased muscle mass.
