Materials and Methods: The methodology used in the study was a qualitative narrative review. Information was searched in various virtual libraries such as Scielo, Medigraphic, Redalyc, and Cochrane. The sample consisted of 30 articles published between 2017 and 2022. The Grade system was used to assess the strength of the recommendation of each article. Results: It was found that 40% of the studies were case-control studies, 70% of the reviewed studies had a high quality of recommendation, followed by 20% with a low level, and 10% had a moderate level of recommendation. 83% of the studies mentioned a significant association. Conclusions: The reviewed scientific evidence was of high level and demonstrated a significant relationship between pre-gestational body mass index and newborn birth weight.
