Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of the use of chlorhexidine in the prevention of omphalitis in neonates.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-08-26) Cañas De La Cruz, Nancy Elizabeth; Egoavil Churampi, Keyla; Bonilla Asalde, César AntonioObjective: To systematize evidence on the effectiveness of chlorhexidine use in preventing omphalitis in neonates. Materials and Methods: This quantitative study used a systematic review research design. The population included 74 articles, and the sample consisted of 10 scientific articles. The following databases were consulted: Wolters Kluwers, PubMed, Wiley One Library, Cochrane, and Database. The selected articles underwent critical selection using the Grade evaluation system to identify the level of evidence. The quality of evidence was found to be high in 100% of the reviewed studies, originating from India (30%), the United States (30%), Kenya (10%), the Netherlands (10%), Pakistan (10%), and Africa (10%). The 10 systematically reviewed articles were distributed as follows by design: 40% (n=4/10) systematic reviews, 10% (n=1/10) meta-analyses, and 50% (n=5/10) controlled clinical trials. Results: The systematic review demonstrated that 100% of the analyzed articles confirmed the effectiveness of chlorhexidine use in preventing omphalitis in neonates. Conclusion: The effectiveness of chlorhexidine use in preventing omphalitis in neonates was established.
