Ítem Acceso abierto (Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017) Rojas Soto, Estefania Neyra; Cupé Araujo, Ana CeciliaThe objective of this study was to determine the quality of life related to oral health, according to the perceptions of adolescents aged 11-14 and their parents, at the educational institution 0146 Su Santidad Juan Pablo II in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho in 2017. This study was descriptive, prospective, and cross-sectional. The probabilistic sample consisted of 170 adolescents aged 11-14 years with their respective parents. The instruments used were the Child Perceptions Questionnaire (CPQ 11-14) and the Parental-Caregiver Perceptions Questionnaire (P-CPQ), which were completed by the adolescents and parents. The dental caries experience was assessed through the DMFT index, and the molar relationship was also recorded. Statistical analysis was performed using Poisson regression with a robust estimator. Results: The quality of life related to oral health, according to the perceptions of the adolescents aged 11-14 years and their parents, was not statistically significant when related to age, gender, caries experience, and molar relationship. In the studied sample, the average DMFT score was 4.62 teeth with dental caries experience. The majority of adolescents rated their oral health as "good" (42.9%), while their parents rated it as "fair" (54.7%). Regarding how oral health affects their general well-being, adolescents considered it to affect them "a little" (49.4%), similar to the parents' perception (35.9%). According to the Pearson correlation analysis, there was a statistically significant correlation (40.3%) between the adolescents' quality of life related to oral health and their parents' perception of it.Ítem Acceso abierto (Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017-07-17) Robles Rivera, Gissel Kathleen; Cupé Araujo, Ana CeciliaTraditionally, the oral health status of a population is assessed through clinical indicators; however, it is important to evaluate the impact of this condition on the overall well-being of children. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of oral problems (dental caries and malocclusions) on oral health-related quality of life in children aged 8 to 10 years attending I.E. 32385 Virgen De Fátima in the Llata District, Huánuco, in 2016. The study was observational, prospective, cross-sectional, and analytical. The sample was convenience-based, consisting of 110 schoolchildren. The results showed that the majority of the children were 9 years old (49.1%). More than half of the children perceived that their oral health was “Very good or Good,” reflecting a positive perception. It was concluded that, according to the CPO, the average score was (10.34 ± 3.13), indicating a very high experience of dental caries, while the frequency of malocclusion types was 81.5% for Type I, 8.3% for Type II, and 10.2% for Type III. Additionally, more than half (55.5%) had a positive perception of their oral health, while about a third (74.5%) perceived that their oral health affected their quality of life. Final analyses showed that having 0 to 5 teeth with experience of dental caries significantly impacts the oral symptomatology dimension within the CPQ8-10. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that 8-year-old children have a significant risk of impact on oral symptomatology and social well-being, as well as on the overall component of oral health-related quality of life.Ítem Acceso abierto (Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-02-05) Vargas Duran, Karen Gisella; Vergara Pinto, Brenda RoxanaIt is important to define the expression "oral health-related quality of life"; one of its many definitions mentions the impact that oral health has on the different activities that individuals carry out daily. The elderly are affected by various oral diseases, with tooth loss being the most common; moreover, they are a vulnerable age group in society. Therefore, the following objective was proposed: To determine the relationship between quality of life and oral health in users with removable partial dentures. The type of study conducted was observational, cross-sectional, and prospective; the sample consisted of 99 elderly individuals (PAMs), selected through probabilistic sampling. In the data collection, identification instruments were applied, including the CPOD index, IOHS, prosthesis condition index, and the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-EDENT). The bivariate analysis was performed using the non-parametric Kendall’s Tau-b test for categorical and ordinal variables, with a p ≤ 0.05 and a 95% confidence interval. Our results show that 44.4% of the PAMs have regular oral health. The quality of life, as perceived by the PAMs, was good in 54.5%. Kendall’s Tau-b test yielded = -0.262 with a p = 0.004, showing a relationship between the two variables (quality of life and oral health status). Thus, it is concluded that quality of life is correlated with the oral health status of PAMs.Ítem Acceso abierto Dental erosión and its impact on the quality of life related to oral health in pre-schools of the district of san juan de Lurigancho, lima 2019.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-08-27) Tuya Collazos, Maribel Yanina; Céspedes Porras, JacquelineObjective: The aim of this study was to determine the impact of dental erosion on oral health-related quality of life in preschoolers from the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima 2019. This was an observational, cross-sectional, analytical study. The sample size consisted of 150 preschoolers aged 3, 4, and 5 years from the I.E.I "Niño Jesús Mariscal Chaperito," with the consent of their respective parents. The instruments used were the "Basic Erosive Wear Examination (BEWE)" for dental erosion, and the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS), for quality of life. Results: The averages in both the group without erosion and with erosion were very similar. When performing the statistical test for quality of life and its dimensions, a p-value > 0.05 was obtained, indicating that there is no statistically significant difference between the impact of erosion and oral health-related quality of life (Student's t-test for independent samples; p> 0.05). Conclusion: It is concluded that the prevalence of dental erosion in preschoolers was high, and that dental erosion did not show an impact on the quality of life related to oral health.Ítem Acceso abierto Relationship between periodontitis and quality of life in oral health in patients of the UPNW dental center, Lima -2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-08-03) Obispo Olguin, Nataly Zenaida; Girano Castaños, Jorge AlbertoThe objective of this study was to determine the relationship between periodontitis and oral health-related quality of life in patients who visited the dental clinic of Norbert Wiener University in Lima in 2018. The severity of its manifestations depends on the stage of the disease, influencing the individual's quality of life. Given this, the objective of this research was: "To establish the relationship between oral health-related quality of life and type II diabetes mellitus in patients attending the Life’s Good Polyclinic in the San Juan de Miraflores district, 2021." An observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted. The population consisted of 162 people with diabetes mellitus and 162 without diabetes, all over 40 years of age, selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The variables considered were sex, age, and oral hygiene. Data was collected using the Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified (IHO-S) and the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14). Our results showed that 148 (91.40%) diabetic participants exhibited a regular quality of life, of whom 77 had regular oral hygiene, 68 had poor oral hygiene, and 3 had good oral hygiene. 8 (4.90%) participants with poor quality of life showed poor oral hygiene, and 6 (3.70%) with good quality of life had regular or good oral hygiene. The non-diabetic participants (162, 100%) revealed having good quality of life and consequently, good and regular oral hygiene. It is concluded that oral health-related quality of life is related to the presence of diabetes mellitus, and is also influenced by oral hygiene; however, it is not related to age and sex.
