Publicación Acceso abierto Actividad antimicrobiana del aceite esencial de Origanum vulgare L. “orégano peruano” frente a Staphylococcus aureus(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-05-31) Salinas Segura, Roger; Carhuapoma Yance, MarioThe objective of this research was to confirm the antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of Origanum vulgare L., "Peruvian Oregano," against Staphylococcus aureus. The essential oil was obtained by steam distillation and purified with anhydrous sodium sulfate. The analysis of the main phytochemical components of the oil was performed using organoleptic and instrumental methods. The antimicrobial activity was assayed against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 using the disk diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer), with Gentamicin 10 µg (OXOID brand) as the positive control and dimethyl sulfoxide as the negative control. Results: The essential oil had a good yield of 2.02%, distilled in 60 minutes, with a density of 0.9132 g/mL and a refractive index of 1.475. The main components were carvacrol and thymol. The essential oil of Origanum vulgare L. showed antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, with inhibition halos of 11.47,13.40,16.60, and 19.65 mm at concentrations of 25,50,75, and 100 µg/mL, respectively. The gentamicin control resulted in an inhibition halo of 30.14 mm. Conclusion: The highest antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of Origanum vulgare L. "Peruvian Oregano" against Staphylococcus aureus was confirmed at 100 µg/mL.Publicación Acceso abierto Actividad laxante del extracto etanólico de las hojas de Origanum majorana L. “mejorana” en ratones(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-12-04) Cáceres Milla, Alexander Jesús; Chávez Flores, Juana ElviraThe objective of this study was to determine the laxative activity of the ethanolic extract of Origanum majorana L. (“marjoram”) in mice. The species was collected in the department of Ayacucho, macerated for seven days, and concentrated using an extraction hood and a Memmert oven at 40 °C until a dry sample was obtained. To analyze intestinal motility, the method described by Vogel et al. was employed, applying the direct observation technique. A total of 48 albino mice of the Balb/C53/CNPB strain, both male and female, were used, with a dose of 300 mg/kg. The extract demonstrated greater laxative activity. In conclusion, the ethanolic extract of Origanum majorana L. For this purpose, the E. faecalis (ATCC 29212) strains were reactivated and used in the two stages of the study.1. Determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of both essential oils. 2. Determination of the inhibitory effect of these essential oils compared to antimicrobial substances used in pulp therapy. In the first stage, it was found that the CMM of muña essential oil was 10% and the CMM of the oregano essential oil was 30%. In the second stage, E. faecalis were seeded in 56 petri dishes containing Mueller Hinton culture medium with wells of 6mms. of diameter filled with 100 ml of 100% and 10% (CMI) muña essential oil,30% and 100% (CMI) of oregano essential oil, sodium hypochlorite al 5%, chlorhexidine gel at 2% and chlorhexidine solution al 2%, Calcifar - P ® y Tween 20. The petris were incubated at 37 ° C performing the measurement of the inhibition halos with a Vernier caliper or caliper rule at 24 and 48 hours. For the statistics analysis ANOVA and Tukey tests were used. We concluded that the CMM of muña and oregano essential oils have inhibitory effect against E. faecalis at 24 and 48 hours, however its effect is less than 2% chlorhexidine (solution).
