Ítem Acceso abierto Relationship between dental caries and orofacial praxis presented in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy aged 2 to 17 years of Instituto para el Desarrollo Infantil – Arie, 2019- 2020.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-03-01) Tenorio Paredes, Madelaine Rocio; Loayza Rodríguez, Luis MartínIn Peru, there are few studies on the relationship between dental caries and orofacial praxia, making it a field where this thesis aims to intervene in order to gain further insight and contribute to the topic. Therefore, the main objective of this research was to determine the relationship between dental caries and orofacial praxia in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy treated at the Institute for Child Development ARIE-La Molina, 2019-2020. The total population consisted of 30 children and adolescents aged 2 to 17 years with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy. They were evaluated using a dental clinical record and an orofacial praxia record. The result obtained was that the presence of labial and lingual orofacial praxias was associated with a lower number of dental caries, with a Spearman's Rho of -0.133 for labial praxia and -0.038 for lingual praxia. In conclusion, the presence of lingual and labial orofacial praxias is related to a decrease in dental caries. It is recommended that patients with cerebral palsy undergo oral motor therapy to improve chewing and thus promote a reduction in dental caries.
