Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: Effect of vitamin D supplementation on the health of women with polycystic ovary syndrome(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-03-02) Ruesta Gutierrez, Marysabel del Pilar; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea LisbetPolycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterized as a hormonal disorder with dermocosmetic, endocrinometabolic, and gynecological manifestations, affecting 10% of women of reproductive age worldwide. Vitamin D is a nutrient considered a steroid hormone with a similar action to progesterone, and its deficiency may be associated with gynecological diseases. The present secondary research titled 'Critical Review: Effect of Vitamin D Supplementation on the Health of Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome' aimed to evaluate the effects of vitamin D supplementation in women with PCOS. The Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) methodology was used. Information was searched on Google Scholar, Dimensions, and Elsevier, and the database was obtained from PubMed, Science Direct, Oxford Academic Journals, and Scielo, resulting in 61 articles, of which 19 were selected and critically evaluated using the CASPe tool. The meta-analysis 'Vitamin D Supplementation in the Treatment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials' was chosen, which has a level of evidence AI and a strong recommendation grade, according to the researcher's experience. The critical review concluded that vitamin D supplementation is beneficial for the health of women with PCOS. Further research with larger sample sizes and extended study periods is needed to strengthen the results found in this meta-analysis.
