It is estimated that worldwide, symptoms of depression affect 350 million people in different age groups. Objective: Determine the relationship between depression and quality of life in older adults hospitalized in the Medicine services of the Dos de Mayo National Hospital, 2022. Methods: The present study is applied, with a quantitative approach, its correlational methodological design. cross. The sample will be made up of 87 older adults. Chronic low back pain, which persists over time, can influence various aspects of daily life and cause daytime sleepiness. Objective: To determine the relationship between disability due to low back pain and daytime sleepiness in patients with lumbalgia at a spinal center in Lima in 2023. Method: The study uses a hypothetical-deductive method, a quantitative approach, basic research type, non-experimental, cross-sectional design, and a descriptive correlational level. The sample consisted of 80 patients out of 100. The Oswestry Disability Index (Spanish version by Flórez, 1995) will be used to measure disability due to low back pain, and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (Peruvian version by Rosales, 2009) will be used to measure daytime sleepiness. SPSS version 23 will be used for statistical analysis, applying Spearman’s Rho test. Results: Regarding sociodemographic characteristics, 57% were male, 42.5% female, 40% were aged 20–35 years, 28.7% aged 36-50 years, and 31.3% aged 51-65 years. The majority (50%) worked in administrative occupations, 86.3% had minimal disability, 10% had moderate disability, and 3.8% had severe disability. Light daytime sleepiness was observed in 75%, while 7.5% had moderate sleepiness. Materials and Methods: Systematic Review; The search has been restricted to 10 scientific articles no older than 7 years. Results: Of the total number of articles systematically reviewed, we found that 40% show that the use of 0.9% Sodium Chloride for washing and sealing the peripheral venous catheter is an effective and safe measure, just like heparin solution; 40% evidence that, among effective nursing care for the conservation of the peripheral venous catheter, is the change of the peripheral venous catheter according to clinical judgment and 20% of articles reviewed systematically show the effectiveness of the use of transparent dressings for fixation of peripheral venous catheter and prevention of dislodgement or accidental removal compared to other devices. The population consisted of 10 articles, including systematic reviews and study samples. Four studies are clinical trials, three are systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and three are meta-analyses only. Results: Of all the studies, 60% demonstrate the effectiveness of albumin as an intravascular volume expander, decreasing the risk of renal failure, pulmonary edema levels, and significantly reducing extravascular pulmonary water. 30% demonstrate the effectiveness of other fluids as the first line in fluid resuscitation due to their market accessibility. 10% demonstrate the effectiveness of both albumin and other fluids in increasing left ventricular stroke work and systolic volume. The article search was restricted to full-text versions and underwent critical reading, using the GRADE system for evaluating the level of evidence. In terms of design type, 50% were cross-sectional descriptive studies, 20% were systematic reviews, 10% experimental, 10% action-research, and 10% longitudinal descriptive studies. Results: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 100% (n=10/10) showed that electronic nursing records are highly effective in patient care quality. This implies the following: they increase interprofessional communication, meaning coordination with other disciplines to improve continuity of care and the care process, have a significant impact, increase time efficiency, favor cost-effectiveness, and are a strategy that promotes improved care quality. According to the design type, 50% were cross-sectional descriptive studies, 20% systematic reviews, 10% experimental, 10% action research, and 10% longitudinal descriptive studies. Results: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 100% (n=10/10) show that electronic nursing records are highly effective in improving the quality of patient care. Materials and Methods: A systematic observational and retrospective review that synthesizes the results of multiple primary studies, where 11 scientific articles were selected. These studies were conducted in different countries, with 60% from Colombia, 20% from Brazil, and 20% from Spain and Chile, respectively. The majority of the studies were quasi-experimental and randomized clinical trials, each accounting for 30%, followed by systematic reviews at 20%. Cohort and cross-sectional analytical studies each accounted for 20%. Results: Of the 100% of the articles analyzed, it was found that multidisciplinary team educational interventions reduce hospital readmission rates, increase adherence to pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, and improve the quality of life of heart failure patients through various nursing interventions (outpatient consultations, educational sessions, phone follow-up, text messages, emails, home visits). Conclusions: Of the total articles reviewed, 100% (11/11) demonstrated that nursing interventions increased treatment adherence. Furthermore, hospital readmission rates and emergency room visits were reduced, and self-care levels improved in patients with heart failure.Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of the warming of endovenous liquids to reduce hypothermia in surgical patients in the intraoperatory phase(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-08-04) Trejo Ramírez, Olga Silvia; Maima Coz, Mery Laura; Pretell Aguliar, Rosa MaríaObjective: To systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of intravenous fluid warming in reducing hypothermia in surgical patients during the intraoperative phase. Material and Methods: This systematic review consists of 10 scientific articles on the effectiveness of intravenous fluid warming in reducing intraoperative hypothermia, which were found in the following databases: Pubmed, Scielo and Epistemonikos. They were analyzed according to the Grade scale to determine the strength and quality of the evidence. Of the 10 articles found, 60% were randomized controlled trials, 20% were systematic reviews and 20% were quasi-experimental studies. Results: Of the 10 evidences found, 90% show that warming intravenous fluids is effective in reducing intraoperative hypothermia in surgical patients and 10% show that warming intravenous fluids is not effective in reducing intraoperative hypothermia in surgical patients. This systematic review concludes that 70% of the articles demonstrate that the laryngeal mask is more effective than the endotracheal tube, as it presents fewer complications in post-operative adult patients in reducing pain, bronchoaspiration, and nausea. Materials and Methods: The study was quantitative, and the study design was a systematic review. The instrument used was a database search: PubMed, Scielo, Epistemonikos, and EBSCO, with a population of 15 articles, and the sample consisted of 10 scientific articles published in scientific databases. The GRADE system was used to evaluate the selected articles. Results: Ten scientific articles on the effectiveness of the harmonic scalpel versus the electronic scalpel in patients undergoing surgery were reviewed. The systematic review of the articles, from a total of 100%, included 10% from Canada, 10% from Taiwan, 10% from Italy, 10% from China, 10% from Iraq, 10% from Spain, 10% from Brazil, 10% from Turkey, and 20% from India. Regarding the designs and studies, 10% were retrospective, 10% were randomized prospective trials, 10% were clinical trials, 30% were meta-analyses, and 40% were random cases. On the other hand, it was found that the use of the harmonic scalpel is more effective because it reduced the operative time, postoperative pain, intraoperative bleeding, and the patient's hospital stay. Conclusions: The use of the harmonic scalpel is 100% more effective than the electronic scalpel, but economically, there are limitations regarding the studies on the harmonic scalpel, which calls for the need for further studies.Ítem Acceso abierto Efficacy of the use of vancomycin powder for the prevention of surgical site infection in patients undergoing spinal surgery.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-01-27) Poccorpachi Salazar, Ynfa; Pretell Aguilar, Rosa MariaObjective: To analyze and systematize evidence demonstrating the efficacy of powdered vancomycin for preventing surgical site infections in patients undergoing spinal surgery. Materials and Methods: Systematic review and retrospective cohort study. The search was restricted to 10 full-text articles, which were critically reviewed using the GRADE system to assess their strength and quality of evidence. Results: Of the selected 10 articles, 70% (7/10) were systematic reviews, and 30% (3/10) were retrospective cohort studies. All (100%) were scientific articles, predominantly international in nature. Additionally, 60% (6/10) originated from the United States, 30% (3/10) from Spain, and 10% (1/10) from Germany. Eighty percent (8/10) of the authors indicated that powdered vancomycin is effective in preventing surgical site infections. However, 20% (2/10) noted that the certainty of evidence for the use of powdered vancomycin at the surgical site is very low and limited. They suggested that its application in spinal surgery should be approached with caution. Methodology: Cross-sectional and correlational study. The population made up of patients scheduled for the specialty of chest and cardiovascular surgery, being 68 patients, the sample will be non-probabilistic, therefore, no sample size was calculated. Data collection techniques and instruments: The survey technique will be used for the two variables under study, postoperative complications and personal and institutional factors; The instruments for the case of the two variables will be the questionnaire; which are data that will be collected from medical records, postoperative monitoring sheets, operative report and anesthesia sheets. Procedures: The information collection process will take place in three months. Once the information is collected through the application of the instrument, the information will be entered into a database in the statistical program SPSS Version 23. Methodology: Quantitative, descriptive, explanatory, cross-sectional study. The population consisted of 400 tuberculosis patients treated in the tuberculosis program at Carlos Lanfranco La Hoz Hospital. The sample included 60 patients, selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria established in the study, with a 95% confidence level and a 0.05 error margin. Results: In the social factor, the highest percentages were in the age groups 36 to 45 years (43%) and 46 to 55 years (25%). In terms of gender, 67% were male and 33% were female. Regarding marital status, 30% were married and 36% were living with a partner. In terms of origin, 52% were from the coast and 33% from the highlands. Regarding family support, 72% did not receive any support. In the economic factor, 49% were unemployed and 30% were self-employed. Regarding family income, 65% earned S/. 930 or less. In the cultural factor, 30% had a primary education, 48% had secondary education, and 55% practiced Catholicism. In terms of treatment abandonment, 27% of patients abandoned treatment due to coughing, and 23% due to weakness. In professional evaluations, 45% of patients were only attended by doctors, nurses, or nutritionists after more than a week. Additionally, 51% of the patients did not complete the evaluation with the full team of doctor, nurse, nutritionist, psychologist, and social worker. Conclusions: Treatment abandonment is linked to the fact that the doctor, nurse, nutritionist, psychologist, and social worker do not complete the full evaluation.Ítem Acceso abierto Family functioning and coping of patients hospitalized in the ICU of the Institute of Neurological Sciences(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-02-04) Payano Vivas, Andrea Yuriko; Palomino Taquire, RewardsObjective: To determine the relationship between family functioning and coping in relatives of patients hospitalized in the ICU at the National Institute of Neurological Sciences, 2023. Material and Method: The study follows a hypothetical-deductive method. The population consists of 70 relatives of neurocritical patients hospitalized in the ICU of the National Institute of Neurological Sciences. The survey technique was used, and two instruments were applied: (1) the Family Functioning Test (FF-SIL), developed by Teresa Ortega Veitia et al. in Cuba in 1994 and modified by Elia Machacca Huacarpuma, and (2) the Coping and Adaptation Process Measurement Scale by Callista Roy (2004), also modified by Elia Machacca Huacarpuma. Construct validity was established by Elia Machacca Huacarpuma using expert judgment and the Aiken’s V coefficient, with results for family functioning (V=1.00) and coping in relatives (V=1.00). Instrument reliability was assessed using a pilot test on a different study population, yielding Cronbach's alpha values of 0.94 for family functioning and 0.88 for coping. Data collection will be followed by data processing using Microsoft Excel 2021 and SPSS version 26. Descriptive and inferential results will be reported in frequencies and averages (tables and/or figures). The population will be made up of 50 patients treated in the Peritoneal Dialysis Service at the Ramiro Priale Priale Hospital of ESSALUD – Huancayo. The instruments used in this study were developed by nursing graduates Gil Bazán Cinthia Marisol and Ramos Sanes Sara Carmen; whose validity of the instruments was evaluated through expert judgment; The results were subjected to the binomial test, obtaining the statistical significance value of (p = 0.023). Regarding confidentiality, it was tested through the Cronbach's Alpha statistic (α=0.84). The technique will be a survey and as an instrument two structured questionnaires, Likert scale type, composed of closed questions, consisting of an introduction, general and specific data on family support and self-care capacity of the patient in the Peritoneal Dialysis Service at the Ramiro Hospital. The nursing management of these patients requires high technical skills in suctioning, as it has been identified as a potentially harmful procedure associated with various complications such as trauma, bronchoconstriction, hypoxemia, cardiac arrest, and death. Objective: To determine the relationship between the knowledge that nurses have about secretion aspiration and the practices in intubated adult patients in the Intensive Care Unit of a National Hospital in Lima, 2022. Methods: The research method is hypothetical-deductive, with a quantitative approach, descriptive type, and correlational design. The population and sample will consist of 30 nurses, with a non-probability convenience sampling method. To process and analyze the research data, the collected data will first be classified, then coded, and once collected, classified and processed according to the variables of the research. The SPSS version 26.0 statistical software will be used to generate frequency statistics tables based on the size and characteristics of the study variables; similarly, Microsoft Excel can be used to create charts and tables.
