    Gingival enlargement in patients with orthodontic appliances fixed in Famidental, Los Olivos, 2021

    The objective of this research was to determine the frequency of gingival enlargement in patients with fixed orthodontic appliances treated at a private dental clinic in Los Olivos, Lima, in 2021. Materials and Methods: The study was observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective, with a quantitative approach, conducted with a sample of 100 patients. A questionnaire was given to collect basic information such as sex, age, and duration of bracket use. A periodontal examination was then performed, measuring the probing depth of all permanent teeth using an OMS periodontal probe. Any value greater than 3 mm was considered gingival enlargement, according to previous studies. Results: It was found that 56% of the patients evaluated had gingival enlargement, while 44% did not present any gingival enlargement. Conclusion: Patients with fixed orthodontic appliances show a localized frequency of gingival enlargement.
