Publicación Acceso abierto Actividad diurética del extracto hidroalcohólico de las hojas secas de la Persea americana Mill "palta fuerte"(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-07-05) Bonifaz Monrroy, Nathali Dámariz; Muñiz Mayta, Liseth; Félix Véliz, Luis Miguel VisitaciónThe present study was conducted with the objective of determining the diuretic activity of the hydroalcoholic extract of dried leaves of Persea americana Mill. “Palta fuerte” in rats. The type of study was experimental and prospective, carried out in the natural products and animal facility laboratories of the Pharmacy and Biochemistry Department at Norbert Wiener University. The sample was collected in the province of Cañete, department of Lima. The hydroalcoholic extract was prepared for solubility testing, phytochemical analysis, and determination of diuretic activity using the Naik et al. method in rats divided into five groups of five each: Group I was the control, Group II received hydrochlorothiazide, and Groups III, IV, and V received doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg of the extract. The percentage of urinary volumetric excretion, diuretic activity, and electrolyte quantification (Na⁺, K⁺, and Cl⁻) were calculated. It was determined that the extract is soluble in polar solvents and insoluble in non-polar solvents; the secondary metabolites present were tannins, saponins, phenols, alkaloids, and flavonoids. The percentages of urinary volumetric excretion were 28%, 30%, and 46% at doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg, respectively, compared to hydrochlorothiazide which was 49%. The diuretic activity was 81%, 85%, and 95% at doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg, respectively (p < 0.05); and significant differences were also observed with respect to electrolytes. In conclusion, it was demonstrated that the hydroalcoholic extract of the dried leaves of Persea americana Mill. “Palta fuerte” presented moderate diuretic activity.Publicación Acceso abierto Actividad hipoglicemiante y evaluación de la capacidad del extracto etanólico de la semilla de Persea americana Mill "palto" para reducir el daño histológico en células β pancreáticas(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-06-17) García Chávez, Yelson Néstor; Ortega Ponce, Dany Lizbeth; Chávez Flores, Juana ElviraThe objectives were to determine the hypoglycemic activity and evaluate the capacity of the ethanolic extract from the seed of Persea americana Mill, 'Palto' (avocado), to reduce histological damage in pancreatic β cells. Methodology: The ethanolic extract was obtained by collecting, chopping, and drying the seed. Maceration was performed for 7 days. The Szkudelski method was used, which induces diabetes with alloxan, and the hypoglycemic evaluation was performed using test strips. After the study concluded, the animals were sacrificed, and histological sections of the pancreas were prepared. Results: The seed extract showed solubility in water. Treatment with the 200 mg/kg dose was the most effective in reducing glucose. The histological sections showed that the damage produced by alloxan was minor in the pancreatic β cells of the mice treated with the extract of the species under study. Conclusion: The ethanolic extract of the seed was successfully obtained and the solubility test was performed. The extract applied in mice presents hypoglycemic activity via the Szkudelski method, and it was determined that the seed extract has the capacity to reduce histological damage in pancreatic β cells. For the study, creams were prepared based on the polar fraction of the chloroform extract containing sesquiterpene lactones at different concentrations (1%, 5%, 10%, 20%), reducing inflammation caused by xylene and improving vascular permeability. The results obtained from the xylene-induced inflammation model indicated that creams at 1%, 5%, 10%, and 20% based on the polar fraction of the chloroform extract prevented inflammation of the auricular pavilion (right ear) by 44.94%, 60.20%, 61.04%, and 67.56%, respectively. The anti-inflammatory drugs (Diclofenac 1% gel and Hydrocortisone 1% ointment) induced inflammation inhibition of 64.34% and 81.75%, respectively. These results demonstrate the anti-inflammatory activity of Persea americana Mill “Palta fuerte” seeds.
