Ítem Acceso abierto Efficacy of non-pharmacological interventions in reducing pain in pediatric patients undergoing painful procedures such as immunizations and venipuncture(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-11-04) Huamán Camacho, María Josefina; Mancilla Palomino, Angélica; Millones Gómez, Segundo GermánObjective: Systematize the existing evidence on the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions in reducing pain in pediatric patients undergoing painful procedures such as immunizations and venipuncture. Materials and methods: Observational, prospective systematic review of the literature. A search for full-text articles was conducted. Ten scientific articles were selected from Dialnet, Scielo, Pubmed, Lilacs, Cochrane, Medline Plus, Cuidatge, and Google Scholar. 60% (n=6/10) were systematic reviews, 30% (n=3/10) were controlled clinical trials, and 10% (n=1/10) were meta-analyses, corresponding to the period from 2008 to 2018. Results: Of the ten studies investigated, 80% (n=8/10) of the articles indicated that non-pharmacological measures are effective in reducing pain in pediatric patients who underwent painful procedures such as venipuncture and immunizations. Only 20% (n=2/10) found no significant evidence regarding this benefit. Conclusions: Significant effectiveness is evidenced in 8 of 10 articles regarding non-pharmacological interventions in reducing pain in pediatric patients undergoing painful procedures such as immunizations and venipuncture. However, further studies are required regarding the benefit these interventions have for older pediatric patients.
