Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: Effect of polyphenol supplementation on cognitive function in older adults.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-08-08) De Souza Ferreyra Mendoza, Allison Magaly; León Cáceres, Johanna del CarmenPolyphenols have been shown to have neuroprotective effects. The present secondary research titled as a critical review: Effect of polyphenol supplementation on cognitive function in older adults, aimed to identify the benefits of polyphenol supplementation on cognitive function in older adults. The clinical question was: Does polyphenol supplementation improve cognitive function in older adults? The Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) methodology was used. The search was carried out in the descriptors PubMed, Scielo, Dialnet, Science Direct, finding 298 articles. Ten articles were selected and evaluated with the CASPe critical reading tool, finally choosing the article titled “A Randomized, Double-Blinded, Clinical Trial on Effects of a Vitis vinifera Extract on Cognitive Function in Healthy Older Adults.” The critical commentary allowed us to conclude that supplementation with the polyphenols proanthocyanidins and anthocyanidins from the extract of the Vitis vinifera grape variety improves some cognitive domains in older adults; however, further studies are required to clarify the underlying mechanisms and recommended doses. Esta actividad se debe a la presencia de compuestos fenólicos, flavonoides.Ítem Acceso abierto Impact of the consumption of dietary polyphenols in patients with arterial hypertension. A systematic review(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-08-31) Montesinos Altamirano, Jessica Milagros; Bohórquez Medina, Sofia LorenaObjective: Determine the impact of the consumption of dietary polyphenols in patients with arterial hypertension. Materials and methods: Systematic review, based on the PRISMA statement and the Cochrane Rob 2.0 collaboration. The systematic search was carried outÍtem Acceso abierto Influence of flavonoid intake on the risk of developing colorectal cancer in adults.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-05-30) Hamasaki Matos, Angie Joyce; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea LisbetColorectal cancer is classified as the third most common cancer and the second most deadly in the world and dietary components can be protective factors. Therefore, the present academic work aims to evaluate updated evidence through a critical clinical commentary on the influence of flavonoid consumption in reducing the risk of developing colorectal cancer in adults. To do so, the five stages of NuBE were used and, through the CASPe tool, the scientific articles were classified according to their degree of evidence. From the review and evaluation process, the article Dietary Flavonoids and the Risk of Colorectal Cancer: An Updated Meta-Analysis of Epidemiological Studies was selected. The study structures, describes and analyzes the data in a manner relevant to the type of study that the authors carry out. The statistical analysis is presented in a concise and precise manner, which would allow the study to be replicated. The discussion raised by the authors highlights the main findings and puts them into context by comparing them with similar works previously published. Finally, it can be concluded that it is necessary to generate more high-level scientific evidence that allows extrapolation of results to the general population.
