Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: Effect of low-potassium diets on reducing the progression of chronic kidney disease in adult patients(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-03-02) Córdova Alarcón, Miluska Mercedes; Dávila Córdova, Jennifer EstefaniaNutritional intervention is the set of dietary, nutritional and metabolic actions that must be undertaken in a patient before, during and after the treatment of a disease. The present secondary research titled as a critical review: Effect of Low Potassium Diets in Reducing the Progression of Chronic Kidney Disease in Adult Patients, aimed to identify the benefits of dietary potassium restriction in reducing the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease in adult patients. The clinical question was: Will nutritional intervention (low potassium diets) improve nutritional quality (expressed in the reduction of disease progression) in adult patients suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease? The Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) methodology was used. The information search was carried out in PubMed and Science Direct, finding 137 articles, 10 being selected that have been evaluated by the CASPE critical reading tool, finally selecting the Randomized Clinical Trial titled “Randomized Controlled Trial of the Effect of Potassium Restriction.” in the Diet on Nervous Function in CKD” which has an AI level of evidence and Strong Recommendation Degree, according to the expertise of the researcher. The critical comment allowed us to conclude that studies with larger samples and with characteristics similar to our population are needed to know exactly the existence of the benefits of dietary K restriction in terms of reducing the progression of CKD.
