Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of prophylactic nasogastric tube use in post-operative abdominal decompression in patients undergoing digestive surgery(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-02-17) Quiñones Romaní, Carmen; Falla Fernández, Lorena Imelda; Uturunco Vera, Milagros LizbethObjective: To analyze the evidence of the use of a prophylactic nasogastric tube in postoperative abdominal decompression in a patient undergoing digestive surgery. Material and Methodology: Systematic Reviews are an observational and retrospective research design, a selection of 10 scientific articles was made that were found in the following databases Scielo, Cochrane Plus, PubMed, IntraMed, Ebsco, ProQuest; All of these articles were analyzed using the Grade scale to determine their strength and quality of evidence. Results: The application of the use of a nasogastric tube routinely as a prophylactic measure in the prevention of postoperative complications is not effective in 60%. Likewise, 40% show that the use of a prophylactic nasogastric tube does not offer any clinically relevant benefit to patients after abdominal surgery, therefore its use must be selective. Conclusions: The use of prophylactic nasogastric tube in the prevention of postoperative complications in patients undergoing abdominal surgeries is not effective and its use should be applied selectively in specific cases as a therapeutic measure, such as, for example: in those who present abdominal distension. and excessive vomiting.
