Ítem Acceso abierto Diagnostic validity of immunochromatography for the detection of SARS CoV-2 antigens in the diagnosis of COVID-19 in patients treated in a private laboratory, Lima-Peru 2020(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-04-30) Rojas De la Cruz, Enita; Astete Medrano, Delia JessicaIn our country, the availability of COVID-19 antigen tests is recent. According to clinical efficacy indicated by the manufacturer, the test is optimal for timely disease detection. The objective of this study was to determine the diagnostic validity of immunochromatography for detecting SARS-CoV-2 antigens in COVID-19 diagnosis, incorporating information on sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value compared to RT-PCR as the gold standard. A descriptive, non-experimental, cross-sectional study was conducted from September to December 2020 with 53 samples from patients suspected of COVID-19. The antigen test (nucleocapsid) showed a sensitivity of 78.9%, specificity of 97.1%, positive predictive value of 93.8%, and negative predictive value of 89.2%. The conclusion was that the antigen test shows lower sensitivity than specificity, with a high positive predictive value, making a positive result clinically significant, especially for patients suspected of the disease. However, negative results do not exclude the possibility of infection, and clinical judgment is crucial for diagnosis.
