Ítem Acceso abierto Relationship between self-perception of temporomandibular disorders and stress in citizen security personnel. Cieneguilla 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-04-29) Rojas Ramos, Greesy Luz; Robles Montesinos, Ada OlindaThe diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) involves a detailed history, including the patient’s self-perception, a thorough clinical examination, and auxiliary tests. Among the tools for self-perception of TMD is the Fonseca Anamnestic Index, which identifies signs and symptoms of TMD. These disorders may be present in individuals with high stress levels, such as public safety personnel. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the self-perception of TMD and stress in public safety personnel. Methodology: This was an observational and analytical study using a self-administered questionnaire, which included the Simplified Fonseca Anamnestic Index and the Perceived Stress Scale. The sample consisted of 77 public safety personnel (police officers and security guards) from the district of Cieneguilla. The collected data were analyzed statistically using the Chi-square test and Spearman correlation, with p ≤ 0.05 as the significance threshold. Results: A significant moderate correlation was found between the self-perception of TMD and stress (p=0.000). Only 36.4% reported mild TMD, with 80.5% experiencing moderate stress and 19.5% low stress. Additionally, 44.2% of the personnel reported moderate stress without TMD, while 36.4% reported moderate stress and TMD, showing a statistically significant association (p-value=0.001). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the self-perception of temporomandibular disorders and stress in public safety personnel in the district of Cieneguilla.
