Frequency of Stafne's bone defect evaluated by digital panoramic radiographs of patients treated at the Multident Los Olivos dental clinic period 2019-2020

The purpose of this research was to determine the frequency of Stafne bone defects evaluated using digital panoramic radiographs of patients treated at the Multident Los Olivos dental clinic during the 2019-2020 period. Methodology: This was an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, and retrospective study. The study population consisted of 2521 digital panoramic radiographs. The technique used was observation, and data were collected using a specifically designed data collection form, which included patient identity, presence of the defect, sex, age, diameter, affected side, and location. Results: The frequency of Stafne bone defects was low, with 4 cases identified out of 2521 radiographs analyzed, representing 0.2% of the total. Distribution by sex showed 2 cases (0.2%) in males and 2 cases (0.1%) in females (CI: 95%). The mean diameter of the defects was 9.68 mm. Among the 4 cases, the largest defect (14.2 mm) was observed in a 66-year-old woman, while the smallest (6.9 mm) was in a 29-year-old man. All defects were found on the left side. Conclusion: The frequency of Stafne bone defects evaluated through digital panoramic radiographs was low, with four cases identified.

Prevalence of taurodontism in permanent first molars using digital panoramic radiographs in the radiology service of the Víctor Raúl Haya de la Torre Clinic, Lima 2022

The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of taurodontism in first permanent molars using digital panoramic radiographs in the radiology service of the Víctor Raúl Haya de la Torre Clinic, Lima, 2022. The research was deductive, quantitative, applied, observational, with a descriptive and cross-sectional design. The database from the radiology service of the Víctor Raúl Haya de la Torre Clinic, Lima 2022, was used to collect information from patients whose panoramic radiographs were evaluated. A data collection sheet based on the Shifman and Chanannel classification was used. The sample consisted of 347 digital panoramic images of patients between the ages of 18 and 50. The data was processed using SPSS version 22.0 and Excel. The results showed that 6.7% of the samples presented taurodontism, while 93.3% did not. By age, 4% of teeth with taurodontism were found in the 36-50 age group, 6% in the 26-35 age category, and 7.4% in the 18-25 age group. Regarding sex, 6.9% of teeth with taurodontism were found in males, and 6.5% in females. As for the location by jaw type, 95.6% of cases were found in the upper jaw, and 4.4% in the lower jaw. In conclusion, taurodontism is more common in younger individuals, and it is more prevalent in the upper jaw than in the lower jaw.
