Stress and its relationship with resilience in police personnel from three police departments in Lima, 2022
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-12-23) Falla Campos, Leandro Yair; Valencia Pecho, Diego Ismael
The objective of this investigation was to examine the relationship between stress and resilience in 100 police officers, of both genders, from three police stations in Lima. The study was basic, correlational in scope, with a non-experimental design and a hypothetical-deductive method. The Perceived Stress Scale by Cohen, Kamarck, & Mermelstein and the Resilience Scale by Wagnild and Young were used. The findings indicated that the most prevalent stress level in the sample was average, represented by 31% (31), while 34% (34) perceived a high level of resilience. On the other hand, there was a very significant inverse correlation between the analyzed variables (rs = -0.315; p = 0.001). Stress showed an inverse relationship with the personal competence dimension (rs = -0.272; p = 0.006) and the self-acceptance and life acceptance dimension (rs = -0.344; p = 0.000). Regarding resilience, an inverse relationship was found with the negative stress dimension (distress) (rs = -0.213; p = 0.034), as well as with the positive stress dimension (eustress) (rs = -0.264; p = 0.008). Therefore, it was concluded that a lower stress score was proportionally associated with a higher resilience score in the police sample.
