    Demographic profile and functional capacity of the elderly at the "San Vicente de Paul" shelter in Lima, in 2014

    This study focuses on the analysis of the demographic profile and functional capacity of the elderly at the "San Vicente de Paul" shelter in Lima in 2014. The objective was to determine the relationship between the demographic profile and functional capacity. The sample consisted of 109 elderly individuals from the "San Vicente de Paul" shelter. The instruments used included records for the demographic profile from the medical history and the Barthel Index for functional capacity. The data were analyzed statistically using SPSS 20.0 software with a significance level of p<0.05. The study was quantitative, with a descriptive, correlational design. The results of the demographic profile showed that regarding gender, 38.54% had total functional capacity, 11% had severe functional capacity, 4.58% had moderate functional capacity, and 45.88% had mild functional capacity. Regarding age, 38.51% had total functional capacity, 11.02% had severe functional capacity, 4.61% had moderate functional capacity, and 45.86% had mild functional capacity. Regarding their time of residence, 38.53% had total functional capacity, 11.01% had severe functional capacity, 4.59% had moderate functional capacity, and 45.87% had mild functional capacity. Regarding their place of origin, 38.53% had total functional capacity, 11.01% had severe functional capacity, 4.58% had moderate functional capacity, and 45.88% had mild functional capacity. It was concluded that there is no relationship between functional capacity and the demographic profile of the elderly at the "San Vicente de Paul" shelter. Moreover, no relationship was found between functional capacity and gender, age, length of residence, or place of origin of the elderly.
