Acute phase protein alterations in patients with a diagnosis of covid-19 in a polyclinic in Lima, 2020
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-09-24) Oliva Colan, Ana Rosa; Ascarza Gallegos, Justo Angelo
COVID-19 is a viral disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, which is distributed worldwide and causes high mortality and morbidity rates due to the acute inflammatory processes it induces. This study aims to determine the alterations of acute phase proteins in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 at a polyclinic in Lima, Peru, from April to September 2020. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 1,393 results, and a sample of 473 patients from the ROAL Polyclinic in Los Olivos district was analyzed. Serum concentrations of COVID-19 patients were evaluated using IgG, IgM, or both rapid tests. The analyzed acute phase proteins included C-reactive protein (CRP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), cortisol, and D-dimer. Data analysis and the construction of figures and tables were done using STATA v14.0, with statistical descriptive analysis for estimating frequencies and central tendency measures.

Blood biometry and severity of covid-19 in adults over 60 years of age care at the HNAAA Essalud Chiclayo laboratory - january to april 2021
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-05-05) Aguilar Aguilar, Angélica María; Avelino Callupe, Paul Fortunato
Currently, a global challenge is being faced to overcome this health crisis, as since the outbreak of pneumonia of unknown causes was detected in the city of Wuhan, China, important studies have been conducted to provide knowledge and counteract this new virus, COVID-19. The factors predisposing patients to a severe state during COVID-19 include variables such as age (over 65 years), heart and vascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, chronic lung diseases, diabetes mellitus, obesity, neoplasms, immunosuppression, and pregnancy. The pandemic has caused high lethality in the Lambayeque region, overwhelming hospitals. Certainly, it is everyone's task to contribute to stopping the outbreaks that have emerged in such a short time; therefore, the general population is advised to follow all recommendations to prevent infection. Hematological testing is one of the most important laboratory tests, which through a complete blood count can identify imbalances in the patient's body and help determine the appropriate treatment. This research aims to relate hematological parameters and COVID-19 severity in people over 60 years old treated at the HNAAA Essalud Chiclayo laboratory from January to April 2021.

Frequency of urinary tract infections and antibiotic resistance profile in adult patients diagnosed with COVID-19 from the Biolab & Inmunomed laboratory, Lima, 2021
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-08-13) Pérez Chira, Alicia Isabel; Astete Medrano, Delia Jessica
COVID-19 patients may develop bacterial or fungal infections during their hospital stay, increasing morbidity and mortality rates. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of urinary tract infections and antibiotic resistance profiles in adult patients with COVID-19 diagnosed at Biolab & Inmunomed laboratory in Lima, 2021. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was designed with 124 urine cultures. Patients of both sexes aged over 18 years, with positive urine culture and antibiogram results, were included. Results showed that the average age was 55.5 ± 13.4 years (range 21-85), with 69.4% being male. Of the 33% with positive urine cultures, 53.7% were Candida sp, 22% Escherichia coli, and 17.1% Klebsiella pneumoniae. High yeast prevalence was noted in COVID-19 patients. The most frequent bacterial resistance was to ampicillin, cefazolin, cefotaxime, cefuroxime, ceftriaxone, sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, and nalidixic acid. In conclusion, urinary tract infections occurred in 33% of patients with a broad antibiotic resistance profile and a high proportion of Candida species in adult COVID-19 patients at Biolab & Inmunomed, Lima, 2021.

Performance of lateral flow immunochromatography versus fourth generation ELISA for the diagnosis of covid-19 in adult patients from Lima, 2020
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-06-25) Melgarejo Sosa, Jhonatan Stevens; Sánchez Cabrera, Miguel Ángel; Champa Guevara, Cesar Alfonso
The diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 during the COVID-19 pandemic has been based on rapid tests and other confirmatory tests. A prospective study was conducted comparing the performance of lateral flow immunochromatography against fourth-generation ELISA for COVID-19 diagnosis, focusing on their specificity and sensitivity.
