(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Fonte, Nijumin; Galvez Ramirez, Carlos Michell
The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between the prevalence of dental fluorosis and exposure to systemic fluorides in schoolchildren aged 12-15 from the Carlos Gutiérrez Merino Educational Institution in Ancón, Lima-Peru, in 2014. This study was observational, prospective, cross-sectional, and analytical. The sample consisted of 135 secondary school students. A survey was administered to the parents to determine the systemic fluorides the students were exposed to, and the concentration of fluoride in the students' drinking water was also evaluated. The Dean Index was used to diagnose dental fluorosis. The results showed that 50.4% of the total sample had dental fluorosis, and the fluoride concentration ranged from 0.18 mg/L to 0.20 mg/L, values within the permissible limits. It was concluded that the systemic fluorides associated with dental fluorosis were the factors most frequently influencing the consumption of toothpaste, including the age of initiation of toothpaste use, supervision of brushing, toothpaste ingestion during brushing, and outside of brushing.

Dental caries and its association with body mass index in schoolchildren from the private educational institution DAVIS MOODY, Huancayo 2022
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-05-31) Casachagua Inga, Miguel Angel; Céspedes Porras, Jacqueline
Dental caries is a highly prevalent disease in the pediatric population, and several studies have found its association with nutritional status. The objective of this research was to determine whether there is a relationship between dental caries and body mass index (BMI) in schoolchildren at the Private Educational Institution Davis Moody, Huancayo 2022. To achieve this, an explanatory method with a quantitative approach and a non-experimental, descriptive design at a correlational level was used. The sample consisted of 145 schoolchildren selected through intentional non-probabilistic sampling. The presence of dental caries was measured using the CPOD and ceod indices, and the BMI was measured using height and weight data. Data was collected using a previously validated form. The results revealed a prevalence of caries in primary teeth of 77.24%, in permanent teeth of 80.68%, and in mixed dentition of 100%. The level of caries experience was very high in 45.5% and high in 25.5%, with a mean of 3.50±3.078 for the ceod index, 2.90±2.006 for the CPOD index, and 6.41±2.680 for the sum of the ceod+CPOD indices. The mean BMI for the studied schoolchildren was 18.24±3.48, with 66.2% having a normal weight, 17.2% overweight, and 14.5% obesity. A weak, negative, and significant association was found between BMI and the ceod indices (r=0.321, p=0.000) and ceod+CPOD indices (r=-0.221, p=0.007), while BMI and the CPOD index had a weak, positive, and significant correlation (r=0.177, p=0.00). It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between the presence of dental caries and BMI in the studied schoolchildren, observing that in primary and mixed dentition, as BMI increases, caries indices decrease, whereas in permanent dentition, as BMI increases, the caries index slightly increases.

Dental occlusion and plantar footprint in schoolchildren of a private educational institution located in the district of Puente Piedra, Lima - Peru 2023
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-11-30) Vargas Espinoza, Irma Roxana; Garavito Chang, Enna Lucila
Objective: To determine dental occlusion and plantar footprint in schoolchildren from a private educational institution located in the Puente Piedra district, Lima - Peru, in 2023. Methodology: 66 schoolchildren aged 12 to 14 years from the Military School Mariano Santos located in the Puente Piedra district were evaluated. A clinical stomatological examination was conducted to record their malocclusion according to Angle's classification. Additionally, their plantar footprints were recorded using the Hernández Corvo method. The footprint of each student's foot was obtained by having them place their bare foot on a bond sheet, which had been previously inked with a stamp. The resulting footprints were analyzed and marked. Results: It was observed that 42.4% of the schoolchildren from Mariano Santos Military School had Class I occlusion, 5.3% had Class II, and 52.3% had Class III. Additionally, it was found that 22% had flat feet, 59.8% had normal feet, and 18.2% had high arches. Conclusion: Schoolchildren with Class I occlusion also showed flat feet in 23.2%, normal feet in 58.9%, and high arches in 17.9%. Students with Class II occlusion showed normal feet in 100%. On the other hand, Class III students had flat feet in 23.2%, normal feet in 56.5%, and high arches in 20.3%

Parafunctional habits and their influence on malocclusions in students of an educational institution in Lima, 2023
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-12-13) García Bazalar, Gisela Estefanía; Evaristo Quipas, Pamela
The objective of this thesis was to determine the influence of parafunctional habits on malocclusions in schoolchildren from an educational institution in Lima, 2023. A quantitative, applied, observational, and cross-sectional design was used. The study evaluated 109 schoolchildren aged 6 to 12 years, using a data collection sheet structured in three defined sections: the first part gathered sociodemographic characteristics, the second consisted of 21 questions to investigate the presence of parafunctional habits, which were then clinically verified, and the third part checked for the presence of malocclusions. It was observed that 14 schoolchildren (12.8%) with a lip sucking habit presented a sagittal plane malocclusion, 20% presented lip sucking and posterior crossbite, 13.4% presented lip sucking and class I malocclusion, and 23.5% presented digital sucking and onychophagia with anterior deep bite. The p-value was less than 0.05, accepting H1, indicating that there is an influence, and the Spearman Rho value was 0.241, showing a weak positive correlation. Conclusion: There is a significant influence of parafunctional habits on malocclusions in schoolchildren from an educational institution in Lima, 2023

Relationship between dental caries and cariogenic risk in schoolchildren aged 6 to 9 years at the Mariscal Castilla educational institution in Tingo María-2023´
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-06-14) Pérez Espinoza, Kelcy Jael; Huamani Caquiamarca, Yuliana Esther
According to the World Health Organization, almost 100% of the adult population and 60% of children suffer from dental caries. The objective of this study was to determine if there is a relationship between dental caries and caries risk in schoolchildren aged 6 to 9 years at the Mariscal Ramón Castilla Educational Institution in Tingo María during 2023. The hypothetical-deductive method was used, as a phenomenon was to be discovered within a group of people that are part of the study and to understand its distribution within the group. The population consisted of schoolchildren aged 6 to 9 years, with a sample of 248 children attending the educational institution. It was found that 62% of 6-year-old children have a high risk of caries, as do 37.9% of 7-year-olds. 46.2% of 8-year-old children have a medium risk of caries, and 44.8% of 9-year-olds have a low caries risk. In total, 39.6% of the boys and 41.8% of the girls showed a medium caries risk.

Relationship between incisor molar hypomineralization and etiological factors in schoolchildren from an educational institution in Lima, 2023”
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-12-11) Zerillo Farromeque, Camila Janet; Evaristo Quipas, Pamela
This thesis aimed to establish the relationship between molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) and etiological factors in schoolchildren from an educational institution in Lima, 2023. A quantitative, applied, observational, and cross-sectional study design was used. A total of 80 schoolchildren from the educational institution in Lima were evaluated using a structured data collection form. Two instruments were employed: the first was a data collection sheet to establish MIH in children, which included filiative data and a structure for clinical inspection, incorporating the Ghanim index; the second instrument was a questionnaire on the etiological factors of MIH. It was found that the most frequent enamel extension of less than 1/3 of the tooth was observed in the following teeth: 11 (43.8%, 35 cases), 16 (47.5%, 38 cases), 21 (60.0%, 48 cases), 26 (43.8%, 35 cases), 31 (100.0%, 80 cases), 36 (33.8%, 27 cases), 41 (100.0%, 80 cases), and 46 (30.0%, 24 cases). The p-value was found to be less than 0.05, concluding that there is a significant relationship between molar-incisor hypomineralization and etiological factors in schoolchildren from an educational institution in Lima, 2023.
