Ítem Acceso abierto Influence of self-perception of dental appearance on self-esteem of dentistry students at the Private Norbert Wiener University, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-12-01) Serrano Quispe, Cintia Itania; Rojas Ortega, Raúl AntonioThe aim of this study was to assess the influence of self-perception of dental appearance on the self-esteem of dental students at the Universidad Norbert Wiener, 2023- II. The methodology was quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and prospective. A sample of 120 students was considered, 60 from the 8th cycle and 60 from the 9th cycle. Both genders were included, excluding those who had undergone orthodontic treatment, teeth whitening, or dental veneers, and informed consent was obtained prior to data collection. A simple random probability sampling method was used. Two validated and reliable questionnaires were used for data collection: one for self-perception of dental appearance and another for self-esteem. The data were processed using SPSS version 24. The results showed that most participants had a regular dental appearance and normal self-esteem (35%, N = 42), followed by those with a poor dental appearance and normal self-esteem (19.2%, N = 23). A statistically significant relationship was found between self-perception of dental appearance and self-esteem.Ítem Acceso abierto Parental perception and self-perception of the quality of life related to oral health and the impact of untreated dental caries in schoolchildren aged 8 to 10 years from the San Juan Macías Educational Institution, Rímac - Lima 2019(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-11-11) Contreras Martínez, María Balbina; Céspedes Porras, JacquelineThis study focused on determining parental perception and self-perception of oral health-related quality of life and the impact of untreated dental caries in students aged 8 to 10 years at the I.E. San Juan Macías 3021. Rímac-Lima 2019. A total of 116 students aged 8 to 10 years, along with their respective parents (n=116), were evaluated using the CPOD/ceod, PUFA/pufa indices, and the P-CPQ and CPQ 8-10 parental perception questionnaires. Results: The CPOD severity level was 69.8% very low, and ceod was 46.6% very low. PUFA/pufa revealed 12.1% pulpitis, 2.6% pulpitis and ulceration, and 2.9% pulpitis and fistula. Parental perception recorded a total quality of life score of 28.09 ± 7.41, while children's self-perception scored 23.93 ± 6.20. Among untreated caries, pulpitis showed the greatest impact on global quality of life at 28.71 ± 4.34. Pearson's test revealed an r² value of 0.470. Conclusion: Parental perception and self-perception were positive. The clinical consequences of untreated caries were dominated by pulpitis, which had the greatest impact. The correlation was moderate.
