The study was observational, prospective, cross-sectional, and descriptive. The study group consisted of 72 patients, aged 20 to 80 years, from both genders. The Huamán questionnaire was used as the instrument. The results showed that 37% of patients experienced dentinal hypersensitivity following scaling and root planing, with a higher prevalence in females (67.9%). Of those, 85.7% had mild severity, 64.3% experienced sensitivity to cold, and 3.6% did not use toothpaste to treat it. The study concluded that there is a significant relationship between the absence of dentinal hypersensitivity and dentinal hypersensitivity following scaling and root planing, as well as a significant relationship with gender (p < 0.05).
