Ítem Acceso abierto Efficacy of lanthanum carbonate versus sevelamer in the management of hyperphosphatemia in adult patients with chronic kidney disease(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-09-22) Bardales Ríos, Silvia; Aguilar Ferroñán, Lizbeth Nataly; Rivera Lozada de Bonilla, OrianaObjective: To systematize the evidence on the efficacy of lanthanum carbonate versus sevelamer for managing hyperphosphatemia in adult patients with chronic kidney disease. Materials and Methods: The 10 bibliographic reviews were found in the PubMed and Epistemonikos databases, all of which were of high quality. 50% are randomized trials, 30% are systematic reviews, and 20% are meta-analyses. The results come from the USA (60%), China (20%), and Japan (20%). Results: According to the evidence, 70% demonstrate that lanthanum carbonate is more effective than sevelamer for managing hyperphosphatemia in patients with chronic kidney disease. 10% showed minimal significant difference, 10% found that sevelamer hydrochloride was more effective than lanthanum carbonate, and 10% found that both medications are effective. Conclusion: Seven out of 10 articles demonstrate that lanthanum carbonate is more effective than sevelamer in managing hyperphosphatemia, 1 out of 10 showed minimal significant difference, 1 out of 10 found that sevelamer hydrochloride is more effective, and 1 out of 10 found that both medications are equally effective.
