Ítem Acceso abierto Benefits of telemedicine to facilitate access for people in remote rural and marginal urban areas to specialized health services.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017-07-22) García Meza, Gloria Isabel; Mendigure Fernandez, JulioObjective: To systematize and analyze evidence regarding the benefits of telemedicine to facilitate access to specialized health services for people in remote rural and urban marginal areas. Materials and Methods: This was a systematic review of 10 scientific articles on the benefits of telemedicine for facilitating access to specialized health services for people in remote rural and urban marginal areas. These articles were found in the PubMed, Medline, and Cochrane Plus databases. All the studies were of types and designs: systematic review (04), meta-analysis (01), clinical trial (01), case-control (01), cross-sectional (02), and quasi-experimental (01). Results: Of the total of 10 articles reviewed, 100% (n=10/10) agree and provide evidence that telemedicine offers a health benefit, as it enables specialized care for emergency patients located in remote or hard-to-reach areas, while also facilitating the development and decongestion of small, overcrowded hospitals. Conclusion: The use of telemedicine represents a benefit to the healthcare system by allowing timely and specialized care in emergency situations for patients located in remote or hard-to-reach areas. Therefore, telemedicine facilitates the early management of critically ill patients before the arrival of emergency teams or their transfer in conventional ambulances.
