Ítem Acceso abierto Bacterial vaginosis and atypical squamous cells in cytological screening public health reference laboratory Sullana, 2019 - 2020(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-11-03) Sandoval Zapata, Jorge Luis; García Vásquez, Carlos HugoBacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common vaginal infection worldwide, affecting the physical and emotional well-being of women and their intimate relationships with their partners. An increase in prevalence has been reported, especially in the northern regions of Peru, making it necessary to strengthen health services for timely detection and treatment. This correlational and descriptive research includes a population of 7,515 women of reproductive age, with a sample of 366 Papanicolaou smears from positive cervical samples. The objective is to identify the association between bacterial vaginosis and atypical squamous cells diagnosed through cytological screening in the Public Health Reference Laboratory of Sullana, 2019-2020. The study aims to detect vaginal infections like Gardnerella vaginalis and pre-malignant lesions like ASC-US and ASC-H, and establish the relationship between bacterial vaginosis and atypical squamous cells in the northern population of Peru, where local and regional studies on this issue are lacking. This could inform strategies for improving reproductive health education, communication, and services.Ítem Acceso abierto Cytohistopathological study of intraepithelial lesions and carcinoma in situ of the cervix in patients of the II EsSalud Abancay hospital 2016-2019(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-11-06) Arcos Bustos, Daisy; García Vásquez, Carlos HugoIntroduction: To ensure the reliability of Papanicolaou test results, quality control methods such as biopsy are necessary, with biopsy being the gold standard. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the cytological-histological correlation in cervical samples from patients at Hospital II EsSalud Abancay. Materials and Methods: This will be a descriptive, non-experimental study with a quantitative, observational, cross-sectional, retrospective, and correlational approach in women aged 18-65 who underwent cytology and histology tests of the cervix, with positive results for LSIL, HSIL, NIC1, NIC2, NIC3, and in situ cancer at Hospital II EsSalud Abancay. Correlation will be measured using the Chi-square method.Ítem Acceso abierto Cytological and histological relationship in the diagnosis of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions of the cervix in patients at the National Hospital Arzobispo Loayza, 2016-2017(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-02-20) Palpa Gómez, Jesica Yesenia; Arias Guzmán, Evelyn Ruth; Rosas Marroquin, Nancy PilarThe objective is to determine the relationship between Cytology and Histology in the diagnosis of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion of the cervix in patients at the Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza from 2016 to 2017. A search for theoretical information was conducted on reliable websites such as Medigraphic, Medic Books, and repositories. This is a quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional, and retrospective study; 50 patients with a cytological result of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion were analyzed, which was later complemented with a histological study in the Pathology Laboratory at the Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza between 2016 and 2017. Chi-square contingency tables were used to examine the relationship between Cytology and Histology, where a P value of < 0.05 (0.000) and a 95% confidence level were obtained, indicating a significant relationship. Consequently, the hypothesis was accepted, and the Kappa index was also analyzed, which qualitatively expresses the "Strength of agreement," showing poor agreement. Based on the study, it was concluded that the Cytological test had a poor correlation with the Histological test for diagnosing high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion of the cervix in patients at the Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza.Ítem Acceso abierto Follow-up of squamous intraepithelial lesions of the cervix in pregnant women at the San José maternal and child center 2015 - 2020(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-11-20) Muñoz Mego, Dunaway Daneli; García Vásquez, Carlos HugoCervical cancer is considered a public health problem affecting people worldwide. In Peru, cervical cancer ranks third as a cause of death, and is the leading cancer-related cause of death in women. Cervical cancer screening is based on the Papanicolaou test, one of the most cost-effective tests that can be performed in any healthcare facility. It is estimated that using this method could prevent 40% of cervical cancer cases. The identification of squamous intraepithelial lesions of the cervix during pregnancy is higher than in non-pregnant patients, as pregnant women often present cytological alterations. Some of these alterations are due to physiological changes during pregnancy, while others may be pre-existing malignant conditions that could progress to cervical cancer. Understanding this is crucial for developing prevention and monitoring programs targeting patients with cervical pathology.Ítem Acceso abierto Progress follow-up of patients with atypia of squamous cells intraepithelial injury of the cervix from Hospital Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen 2015-2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-05-07) Roldán Mayorca, Nancy Libny; García Vásquez, Carlos HugoCervical cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among Peruvian women. The Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital, affiliated with Social Security, aims for 100% coverage in screening women at risk. The hospital conducts approximately 20,000 cytological tests annually but has not yet evaluated the proportion of regressive, persistent, and progressive results in follow-up cytological studies for patients with atypical squamous cells and low and high-grade intraepithelial lesions. This study aims to follow up on patients with atypical squamous cells and cervical intraepithelial lesions at the hospital to analyze the effectiveness of cytological monitoring in their evolution.Ítem Acceso abierto Risk factors related to squamous intraepithelial lesions of the cervix in women treated at the Arzobispo Loayza national hospital 2020.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-10-14) Miñope Medina, Melkin Eliezer; García Vásquez, Carlos HugoSquamous intraepithelial lesions are a global health problem among women, typically arising from an STI caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). However, other factors contribute to the development of these lesions. The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between risk factors and squamous intraepithelial lesions of the cervix in women treated at the Arzobispo Loayza National Hospital in 2020. The study population consisted of all cervicovaginal cytology slides with a positive diagnosis of squamous intraepithelial lesions and their corresponding clinical histories. A statistically significant relationship was found between squamous intraepithelial lesions and age group, marital status, economic level, education level, number of sexual partners, age at the start of sexual activity, age at the first pregnancy, number of pregnancies, use of contraceptive methods, Pap smear history, STI history, family history of cancer, and personal medical history. Conclusion: In this study population, squamous intraepithelial lesions are associated with sociodemographic, gynecological-obstetric risk factors, STI history, family history of cancer, and personal medical history.Ítem Acceso abierto Use of contraceptives and its association with squamous intraepithelial alterations of the cervix in patients at San National Hospital Bartolome, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-06-23) Crispin Herrera, Guisel Erica; Huamán Cárdenas, Victor RaulUnderstanding the effect of contraceptive use on the development of cervical intraepithelial squamous lesions provides valuable information to healthcare professionals to help women make better decisions. The objective was to determine the association between contraceptive use and cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions. An observational, quantitative, cross-sectional, case-control design was applied, including 580 patients screened at the Hospital Nacional San Bartolomé in 2023. The case and control groups each included 290 patients with positive and negative reports, respectively. It was found that contraceptive use increases the risk of developing cervical intraepithelial squamous lesions by 2.34 times with a significant association (OR = 2.34, 1.67-3.27 95% CI; p<0.001). Additionally, a higher risk was found in those using oral contraceptives (OR = 2.12, 1.11-4.02 95% CI; p = 0.02) and injectable contraceptives (OR = 2.00, 1.28-3.12 95% CI; p<0.002). No association was found for patients using IUDs (OR = 1.00, 0.35-2.88 95% CI; p = 1.00) or contraceptive implants (OR = 1.46, 0.72-2.95 95% CI; p = 0.289). It was concluded that there is a significant association between contraceptive use and the aforementioned lesions in patients at HONADOMANI.
