Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of pacifier use in reducing sudden infant death syndrome(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-07-08) Moreno Trigos, Nataly Adriana; Diaz Coronado, Vilma Nerida; Calsin Pacompia, WilmerObjective: To analyze the effectiveness of the use of pacifiers to reduce sudden death in infants. Materials and Methods: Type of study is quantitative, the design that has been used is the systematic review, the population being 21 articles of which there are 10 articles duly analyzed and mentioned in the databases, the search instrument that was used The database is: Lilacs, Lipecs, Pubmed, Medline, EBSCO and Cochrane Plus. To examine the sample, the GRADE method was used, which examined the degree of certainty and the strength of suggestion on the topic. Results: Of all the articles reviewed, 100% show that the use of pacifiers is effective in reducing Sudden Death in Infants. Conclusions: all the articles show that the use of the pacifier reduces the sudden death of the infant, since it acts as a protective factor, avoiding the prone position, protecting the patency of the airways, facilitating breathing control, reducing cases of suffocation, reducing the Gastroesophageal reflux by stimulating suction through the non-nutritive way of sucking. In addition, it has been shown that it increases micro-awakenings, helping the tongue remain in an anterior position, thus gradually raising carbon dioxide levels and airway muscle tone.
