Ítem Acceso abierto Cytological Alterations of the Cervix in Patients at a Public Hospital in Lima from March to September 2016(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 1905-07-09) Aguilar Félix, Liliana; Espinoza Calero, Julio CesarObjective: To determine cytological alterations of the cervix in patients at a public hospital in Lima from March to September 2016. Materials and Methods: A retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in 4,535 patients who underwent Papanicolaou tests in the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of a public hospital in Lima Metropolitan Area, from March to September 2016. Papanicolaou reports and cytological study request forms were used to collect the data, which were recorded in a data collection form. Results: The rate of cytological alterations was 2.9%, with 50.4% presenting ASC-US, 4.6% ASC-H, 25.2% low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion, and 19.8% high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion. The most represented age group among those with cytological alterations was middle-aged women (45-64 years) with 45.8%. No cytological alterations were found in the adolescent group. Conclusions: The rate of cervical cytological alterations in patients at a public hospital in Lima from March to September 2016 was 2.9%, highlighting the need for continued control measures.
