Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: effects of dietary potassium restriction in patients with chronic kidney disease and renal replacement therapy(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-08-10) Ochoa Véliz, Henry William; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea LisbetChronic kidney disease (CKD) is a public health problem that affects 10% of the world's population. The present research work was mainly focused on the development of a scientific critical commentary in accordance with the literary review associated with the established problem in order to know its consequences. In this sense, a clinical question was posed to be answered through the choice of an article. The Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) methodology was used. After searching for articles, 14 were selected to be evaluated by the CASPE critical reading tool. Finally, the article titled “Effect of dietary potassium restriction on serum potassium, disease progression and mortality in chronic kidney disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis” was selected, which has a level of evidence and degree of recommendation. : AI-Strong, according to the experience obtained by the researcher. The critical comment allowed us to conclude that there is significant evidence for not restricting dietary potassium in patients suffering from chronic kidney disease and replacement therapy, since it is shown that its consumption in established quantities, plus the guidance and advice of a nutrition professional, does not have a negative impact on the stages of CKD.
