Perception of body image and risk of eating disorders in adolescent girls aged 13 to 18 at Colegio Nacional República de Chile - Lince, 2014

Media often disseminate idealized messages about beauty and how to achieve it, negatively influencing adolescents who follow and seek a perfect image, thereby distorting their self-image and causing them to engage in unhealthy diets to reach this ideal, which can lead to Eating Disorders (EDs), constituting public health problems. For these reasons, this study aims to determine the relationship between body image perception and the risk of EDs in adolescents. The data collection was conducted using the standardized scales EEICA and EAT-26. The study population consists of 297 adolescents aged 13 to 18 from the República de Chile Educational Center, and the sample comprised 109 students. The results show that 26.6% of adolescents are dissatisfied with their body image, and 26% are at risk of EDs (8% at low risk, 12% at medium risk, and 6% at high risk). The hypothesis of an indirect relationship between body image perception and the risk of EDs was confirmed (p-value 0.000). Adolescents in the third grade have a better perception of their body image (p-value: 0.004), and adolescents in the fifth grade show a higher risk of EDs (p-value: 0.004). No statistically significant differences were found between body image perception and the risk of EDs according to age group.

Risk of eating disorders in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus in the medicine service at the María Auxiliadora Hospital, Lima – 2019

Objective: Determine the risk of eating disorders in patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus of the Medicine Service - Hospital María Auxiliadora, Lima - 2019. Material and methods: The present study has a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach. The population was made up of 85 patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus hospitalized during the month of May 2019 in the Medicine service of the María Auxiliadora Hospital. The instrument used was the Diabetes Eating Problems Survey, summarized and internationally validated. The reliability of the instrument was carried out through the pilot test, showing a very high internal consistency (α = 0.793). Results: Of 100% (85) of the population, 80% (68) did not present a risk of Eating Disorders (ED), and 20% (17) presented a risk of ED; Likewise, the risk of eating disorders, according to the eating attitudes dimension, presented 81% (69) risk; According to the bulimic behavior dimension, 82% (70) were not at risk; According to weight control dimension, 73% (62) presented no risk; According to the avoidance dimension, 66% (56) presented no risk; and, according to restriction dimension, it presented 99% (84) of no risk. Conclusions: The population of patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, for the most part, did not present a risk of ED; However, according to dimensions, there is a risk of ED in the eating attitudes dimension and no risk of ED was found in the bulimic behaviors, weight control, avoidance and restriction dimensions.

Trastornos de la conducta alimentaria asociado al estrés, ansiedad y depresión en estudiantes de una escuela de medicina humana, Lima 2024

Introducción: Los Trastornos de la Conducta Alimentaria son problemas complejos que pueden estar estrechamente asociados al Estrés, Ansiedad y Depresión. Estas condiciones afectan el bienestar de los estudiantes de Medicina, quienes enfrentan altas exigencias académicas y emocionales. Identificar esta relación es clave para promover intervenciones oportunas en esta población. Objetivo: Determinar la asociación entre el riesgo de Trastornos en la Conducta Alimentaria y Estrés, Ansiedad y Depresión en estudiantes de una escuela de Medicina Humana de Lima durante el 2024. Metodología: Estudio observacional analítico de corte transversal. La población está conformada por 4,400 estudiantes, y se seleccionó una muestra de 354 participantes. Se aplico los cuestionarios DASS-21 y EAT-26, a través de una ficha de recolección de datos virtual el cual también incluye la edad, género y ciclo académico. Se recopilo la información en el periodo de octubre y noviembre del 2024 a estudiantes de Medicina Humana de una universidad privada de Lima. Posteriormente, se verifico la hipótesis mediante análisis bivariado. Resultados: Se encontró que 55.37% presentan riesgo de Trastornos en la Conducta Alimentaria. Una prevalencia elevada de Estrés (83.62%), Ansiedad (81.36%) y Depresión (75.42%). Así mismo, se evidencio una correlación estadísticamente significativa (p < 0.01) de estas variables mediante la prueba de Rho de Spearman. Conclusiones: El riesgo de Trastornos en la Conducta Alimentaria está significativamente asociado al Estrés, Ansiedad y Depresión en estudiantes de Medicina Humana, siendo las mujeres y los estudiantes en ciclos intermedios los grupos más vulnerables.
