Carrión, Callao 2015.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Fernandez Sobrados, July; Cruz Pardo, Luz MaríaObjective: To determine the characteristics of patients who abandoned tuberculosis treatment at the Infantas San Martín de Porres Health Center in 2015. Materials and Methods: This was a mixed-method, cross-sectional, and descriptive study. The sample consisted of 20 patients diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis who attended the National Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Tuberculosis and were enrolled in all treatment schemes during 2015. Data collection was done through a questionnaire, and data processing was performed with SPSS software. Results: Treatment abandonment was predominantly in males (80%), 75% were aged between 18 and 25 years, 85% were single, 50% had incomplete secondary education, 70% had an income between 750 and 1000 soles, 60% consumed alcohol, 25% smoked cigarettes, and 10% used drugs (marijuana). 100% of the population experienced side effects from anti-tuberculosis medications such as nausea, vomiting, and other digestive discomforts. Conclusion: The characteristics associated with treatment abandonment included a predominance of males, moderate income, alcohol consumption, and side effects from anti-tuberculosis medications.
