Ítem Acceso abierto Therapeutic practice and perception of orthodontic treatment of temporomandibular disorders in orthodontic graduates of a private university, Lima, Peru - 2022.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-05-28) Félix Corrales, Cristina Angélica; Vilchez Bellido, DinaThe objective of this research was to establish the relationship between therapeutic practice and the perception of orthodontic treatment for temporomandibular disorders (TMD) among graduates of the orthodontic specialty. An observational relational study was conducted. The sample consisted of 61 graduates from the 2011-2019 period of the orthodontics and maxillofacial orthopedics specialty at Universidad Norbert Wiener. A survey was conducted, including a questionnaire with questions about the therapeutic practice of TMD, the perception of orthodontic treatment as therapy, prevention, and etiology of TMD, and the time since graduation from the specialty. The instrument was revalidated by expert judgment, a pilot test was conducted, and reliability was assessed through Cronbach’s alpha. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was performed, and associations were established using the chi-square test. It was found that there is a significant relationship between orthodontic therapeutic practice and the perception of orthodontic treatment as therapy for temporomandibular disorders (p=0.03). However, there is no significant relationship between orthodontic therapeutic practice and the perception of orthodontic treatment as prevention (50.98%) or etiology (57.38%) of temporomandibular disorders.
