Ítem Acceso abierto Relationship between the types of upper labial braces and the presence of gingival recessions in adult patients of the rehabilitative dental center, lima in the period January – March 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-12-01) Turpo Chávez, Janet Elizabeth; Girano Castaños, Jorge AlbertoThe relationship between the types of upper labial frenulum and the presence of gingival recessions in adult patients at the Rehabilitoral Dental Center in Lima during the period of January to March 2021 was determined. An observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study was designed, including 91 adult patients. The insertion of the labial frenulum was visualized in each patient by extending the upper lip and observing the position of the gingival margin in relation to the cementoenamel junction. Frequency analysis and contingency tables were performed to present the findings. It was found that 55 patients had a mucosal frenulum (60.4%), 33 had a gingival frenulum (36.3%), and 3 had a papillary frenulum (3.3%), with no cases of transpapillary frenulum. 49 patients had at least one gingival recession (53.8%), and 42 did not (46.2%). 14 men had gingival frenulums (42.4%) and 36 women had mucosal frenulums (65.5%). 30 mucosal frenulums presented teeth with at least one gingival recession, and 19 gingival frenulums had some recession. The study concluded that mucosal labial frenulums were the most frequent, followed by gingival frenulums, and papillary frenulums were the least frequent. No significant relationship was found between the types of mucosal frenulums and the sex and age of the patients evaluated.
