    Relationship between spontaneous gingival bleeding and the use of contraceptives in students of the U.N.W. Lima - Peru 2019

    The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between spontaneous gingival bleeding and the use of contraceptives in students of the Dentistry Department at UNW, Lima, Peru, in 2019. The sample consisted of 39 students. For the evaluation of spontaneous gingival bleeding, the indicator was direct observation, and the observations were recorded in the data collection form. The data were processed using the SPSS version 25.0 program, and the Chi-square statistical test was used to determine the relationship. Results: The results showed that 33% of the students had spontaneous gingival bleeding, while 66.7% did not present this sign. Regarding the plaque index and spontaneous gingival bleeding, 52.6% of students with a poor plaque index exhibited gingival bleeding, while the prevalence was halved for those with a regular index, and 0% of those with a good plaque index had bleeding. Conclusion: A low significant association was found between spontaneous gingival bleeding and contraceptive use, whereas a significant association was found between the plaque index and spontaneous gingival bleeding.
