Valeriana pinnatifida is a native plant of the Valerianaceae family, endemic to Peru, which grows on rocky slopes in the Andes. Traditionally, it has been used as a sedative, hypnotic, and tranquilizer. This study was initiated to analyze the metabolites present in the plant, determine its acute toxicity, and evaluate its anticonvulsant effect. The research was quasi-experimental. For the phytochemical study, a hydroalcoholic extract was obtained from the root of Valeriana pinnatifida R. & P., "valeriana," via maceration. Acute toxicity was determined at a limit dose of 2000 mg/kg using the OECD 423 protocol. The anticonvulsant effect was evaluated using an experimental model of pentylenetetrazol (PTZ)-induced seizures in mice. Five groups of six albino mice of the C53/CNPB strain were used: group 1 (saline control), group 2 (PTZ 80mg/kg), group 3 (diazepam 5mg/kg + PTZ), group 4 (EHVP 300mg/kg + PTZ), and group 5 (EHVP 400mg/kg + PTZ). The treatments were administered orally 30 minutes before the induction of seizures with PTZ. The results identified the secondary metabolites alkaloids and terpenes. The toxicity study showed a significant variation in the weight of the mice. The 300 mg/kg dose demonstrated a statistically significant anticonvulsant activity compared to the control group in terms of seizure severity and mortality. It is concluded that the hydroalcoholic root extract of Valeriana pinnatifida R. & P., "valeriana," at a concentration of 300 mg/kg, exhibits an anticonvulsant effect.

Uso de Valeriana officinalis extracto “Motivida relax” en trabajadores de Botica Profesional – Lima 2023
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-12-11) Vasquez Pacpac, Claudia Sucette; Díaz Uribe, Julio Luis
The general objective of this research was to describe the general use of the Valeriana officinalis extract "Motivida Relax" among workers at the Professional Pharmacy of Lima in 2023. The methodology employed a deductive method with a quantitative approach, as it is based on the collection and analysis of numerical and quantifiable data. Basic research was conducted with a non-experimental cross-sectional design and a descriptive level, which involves the collection and analysis of information at a single point in time. The population consisted of 56 people. Sampling was not applied because no employees were excluded, as the entire population was worked with. A 20-item questionnaire was used as a research tool, which was subjected to a reliability analysis using Cronbach's Alpha to measure its degree of reliability. Regarding the information obtained, the results showed that 50% of the surveyed population reported a significant improvement in gastrointestinal problems, insomnia, anxiety, headaches, and premenstrual syndrome when using this extract occasionally. Additionally, 25% of the workers experienced consistent improvements in their specific conditions. The conclusion is that using the extract can be a safe and effective alternative for those seeking relief from health problems such as insomnia, anxiety, and headaches without resorting to traditional medications, and is considered a natural alternative.
